Post neutering - housebreaking has taken a backslide - help!

So I posted some time ago about how my husband did not want Gibbon neutered.  I eventually convinced him and we had him neutered last Thursday.  Gibbon is doing really well except for one issue.  He started to have accidents in the apartment.  He was fine through Sunday.  Then yesterday and today, in the evening, he peed by the couch.  He only does this once in the evening.  He is fine in the crate - no accidents - when left for about four hours.  And when leaving him for a longer period alone on Monday during the day, he was left in two rooms of the apartement and we left a pee pad and he went on the pad.  So it seems like it is just that one time around 8:30ish the past two evenings.  We take him out around 6 so it would only be two hours later, he would pee by the couch.

I have noticed he is drinking a lot more water lately and he used to be ;pretty regular with pooping when we brought him out although the past couple of days, he isn't as regular.  He used to go poop every time we brought him out - 3x a day - now it's maybe two.

I have no idea if any of this is connected.  Of course, I do realize that the more he drinks, he probably has to go more but he normally goes on the pad.  Is this behavior just a phase or something to do with neutering?  Again, it only began after he was neutered.  Any thoughts?  I'm just a little confused.  Thanks everyone!

Hello - I am fairly new on this board, but I finally found a question that I can help answer!  I had my puppy neutered at 5.5 months old and the same kind of accidents began happening.  I also noticed that our Winston would poop so regularly before, but now it's less and the times have changed.  I asked around and found out that as our puppies get older, they can "hold it" in longer, which is why he's not pooping regularly.  With the peeing thing, I was told that Winston is becoming adolescent and he is about to start marking things, but in the beginning, he doesn't know the difference between taking a pee and marking.  Now, he's almost 7 months old, he marks outside, sometimes with no pee, just the leg lift, and he almost never has accidents in the house.  I think it might just be a phase, I'm sure there is nothing to worry about - good luck!

Thanks for your response!  Gibbon is already 9 months old.  We waited a little longer to have him neutered.  He definitely liked to mark but it was always outside.  Since he was neutered, his marking has reduced significantly, which is great.  But it was just so weird that he started to pee inside even after we would bring him out.  Of course, because my husband wasn't crazy about the neuter, he kids around and says it's because he was neutered.  I laugh it off but I think, maybe it is.  I was just so sad that he started to do this.  Well, today we left him in the crate this morning, my husband came by at lunch, brought him out, he wouldn't pee at all.  He brought him back and left him out of the crate until I got home.  When I got home, he did pee on the pad but then I found pee on the side of the couch and then against a wall!  I took him out an he was very good.  And he didn't go in the apartment after that until he was ready for bed and I took him to the pee pad.

Until this is corrected, we will leave him in the crate when we're not home and hire a dog walker.  My husband will start working nights soon so that will help.  But I agree that it must just be a phase.  Thanks!!!
