I am happy that you have decided to have Tasha spayed as soon as possible.  Even if you were to find good homes for her pups, what is the guarantee that those homes won't also breed those pups, and not be as caring or diligent as you in finding an excellent home.  It just kinda keeps the cycle going, and you never know in the end where all the other resulting puppies are going to end up.  I think people get very worked up about this subject because many of us work and volunteer at shelters and unfortunately tend to see the worst in many people (I am not in any way implying this about you).  Please don't be offended, i think everyone's main goal is education, not to beat you to pieces.[:)]

Tash I am not offended by your post at all, you gave your opinion of letting Tasha have one litter of puppies based on the circumstances I gave, which is exactly what I asked for.  Thanks.[;)]

Also, I qualify for low cost spaying and I am waiting for a certificate to come in the mail.  If Tasha goes into heat before I get the certificate, can she be spayed in the middle of it or will I need to wait until she is out of heat?

I got the certificate today so I will make an appointment for Tasha tomorrow.  I am kind of worried now about it messing up her growth rate though, she is still only 7 months old.  Even though shes a small dog, I don't want her to be a different size than what she was meant to be :/

As a small dog, her growth plates will close fairly early compared to large breed dogs. Small breeds are usually done growing around 8-10 months, so I wouldn't imagine spaying her now will effect her growth much at all.

Her surgery is scheduled for next Thursday the 18th, hopefully she wont go into heat before then!

I think you are VERY wise to have her spayed. When I bred my Irish, she got uterine infections and I never "got ahead" re: selling the pups because all the money went into the very high vet bills.. So that was an adventure (LOL!) that I would not want to repeat again. I also have had many mix breed dogs over my 60 years and I loved them all just as much as a pure bred. How could you not. And I am not saying anyone here does or doesn't. Anyhow...if you want to see what can possibly happen if you DON'T get your girl fixed I posted pictures on this site of my daughter's Irish Setter when she "didn't get around to " getting her spayed till it was to late and she left me with the mess and aftermath. Check it out..I will warn you the pict.'s are very grafic. Good luck with your baby.
