umm.. I'm sorry to dissagree but there are times when a dog is spayed and it impossable to tell that the dog was pregnate. I don't want to start a debate but if you don't want it to happen then get your dog spayed before it gets to that point wher you have to make that choice.

I'de rather see the pups be put down at that stage then be born into horrable conditions and have to be killed anyway because they are unwanted and are sent to live a caged life in a shelter till they are put to sleep anyway. This takes money and time away from other dogs who are older and need a home also.

I respect your right to your own beliefs.

Personally I find it sad. Sad because it means that a poor dog is not physically healthy enough to have a litter. Sad because someone was not responsible enough to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. Sad because there are so many unwanted dogs that every unwanted litter ends up in shelters - or worse. So for me it is sad, but at times necessary.

I would rather see a dog aborted and spayed than yet another litter of poorly bred or mixed breed dogs going to the shelter to be put to death.  There are simply not enough homes, enough responsible owners, or enough people who MAKE that lifetime commitment to any animal that they bring into their home.

I don't think it's right to allow puppies to kill a mother dog, which can happen in many unplanned pregnancies.  I think the best way to do that is to be responsible with intact animals - either by sterilizing pets or keeping up valuable breeding animals (show or working animals).  Notice there is no option for intact pets, because pets should not be intact once they reach maturity.

A spay termination of a pregnancy is a personal choice.  I don't think it's a moral issue, unless you consider taking any animal life immoral (that is possible and I'd respect that).

I wouldn't do it because I just couldn't - it's more of an aesthetic thing for me - but I'd make darn sure I could bring those pups into the world safely and find good homes for them.  Even so, I'd be well aware that I was taking that many homes from perfectly nice dogs in shelters - most of THEM puppies from accidental breedings.

This is why I spay and neuter my dogs as soon as I decide they will not be bred for whatever reason.

I think that if you want to have an abortion, or have your dog have an abortion then that is your right.  No one has the right to tell you what you are doing is wrong.  There is no reason it is wrong, and unwanted or unplanned litter almost always end badly with most or all of the pups dead at some point, sometimes people are bitten in the process, or a dog has to live a horrible live before death.  If more people would be responsible enought to abort and spay and neuter their dogs then we wouldnt have to put down how many tens of thousands every year.

I think, in life, you are not always given a choice between right and wrong.  Sometimes the choice is between two rights and sometimes it is between two wrongs.  I didn't understand that when I was younger.

better than an unborn litter of pups be aborted than to die at the hands of uncaring people....tortured, abused, neglected. Or to die in a shelter unwanted and unloved, born simply because someone was too lazy or too cheap to spay or neuter their dogs.

That one SUUUUUCKS to learn. I'm a black and white kind of person, but it gets really hard to tell, sometimes. I'm all for spaying, whether the dog is pregnant or not. If I got a rescue dog, and she was pregnant, but NOT whelping in my car, I'd have her spayed. If one of mine accidentally got pregnant (which won't happen, b/c they're spayed), I'd have her spayed. It breaks my heart to think of puppies dying, but allowing an unfit bitch to whelp a litter is completely irresponsible, and just adds to the problem. I cannot do that.

I think dog abortion is ok.  It's better to have them die before they get the chance to know how life is.  Compared to the shelter dogs that are put to sleep who may have had a family that abandoned them and now must die waiting and depressed because their family is not there.

I agree with it too. There are already so many unwanted animals, that if a dog gets pregnant accidentally, then she should be spayed. The pups and the mother dog would be better off.
