    Really sore stitches

My little baby (2yr old rottie x) was sterrillised Last thursday morning. I posted on friday hysterical because she was bleeding, but after lots of prayers from idoggers she came home safe and sound. Tonight she was sat next to me on the lounge suite and i noticed her stiches on her stomach are all red and inflamed. They were not like this yesterday. They are obviously irritating her as she keeps trying to lick and scratch at them.

I have not left the big elizabethen collar on her (apart from when she  has been left alone) as during the day I have kept a very close eye on her and at night i have put a t-shirt on her to cover the stitches so she cant get to them.

I have just had to put the elizabethen collar on her as she is really irritated and trying to lick herself. I don't know what to do. My mom suggested washing with warm salty water but i hared from a friend training to be a vet nurse that you should never put moisture on stitches. Its now 7.30pm so I cant call the vet.

Any help would be really appriciated.

it would not hurt to but bactine or an anesthetic ointment on the stitches to give a little releif...Also migh help to wrap her with a sterile pad and and ace bandage to keep her from getting at it..if she leaves it alone for about 24 hours and it is still irritated then get her checked. but if she leaves it alone and it is no longer inflamed then wait till the stitches are removed....she may be allergict to the suture material, unusuall but possible.
