    Confused - calcium build up?

My 20 month golden has been holding his back leg out to the side very often over the few months.  Had it checked out by the vet and couldn't find anything wrong.  Anyway last weekend took him for a short walk and he started to limp.  Took him to the vet and he was checked out by 2 vets as well hips, back, knee and ankle where xrayed.  All lookgreat except for a bit of calcium build up along a ligament in the ankle.  Thoughts are when he first was brought in he has a soft tissue injury and now he has this buildup that is causing some discomfort.  He is going back tomorrow for  a few more x rays on ankle.  The vet told me that in many cases the calcium build up can not be removed???  He would have to live with it and be on meloxicam for life?  Does this sound right?  Anyone else gone through this?  I guess I am shocked that there is a good possibility it can't be removed when i think of all the other surgeries that are done.  Any thoughs would be appreciated.

My DH has calcium deposits in his back according to the x-rays a chiro dr took.  The chiro dr was unsure what could be done and wanted him to consult a orthopedic dr - no dice. He suffers back pain but will not go back to the doctors for follow-up. The chiro doc helped some but insurance ran out and he won't go back.    Wish I had more to offer you.

Good luck with your guy - hope someone can help you.

you had better get your DH to a orthopod before this gets untreatable...it maybe nothing and can be checked or eased with meds but don;t let it get too far out of hand

Any thoughts on the OP statement about the calcium build up in her dog's leg?

have you considered shock wave therapy? it's supposed to be pretty effective at breaking up those calcium deposits. It's very safe, so worth trying. Often used by horse vets. And yes, calcium often deposits on or around damaged tendons and ligaments.
