Ripped padding on paw

• Ripped padding on paw aaron reece Posted : 6/5/2006 11:49:11 AM     My dog ripped the padding under her paw and is limping as she walks. I dont know if this will heal up automatically or if i should take her to a vet. • forpaws Posted : 6/5/2006 11:52:04 AM Aaron, I don't know how badly she ripped her pad, but it needs to be cleaned, and antibiotic put on it as well as bandaged. The only way you will know is to take her to the vet to be checked out. • twelvepaws Posted : 6/5/2006 3:22:33 PM He'll probably need to be put on oral antibiotics, too. I'm having a hard time with my dog who sliced his paw about 4 weeks ago. It still hasn't healed well and he still limps. Paw injuries can take a long time to heal. Keep it bandaged if you can. They sometimes stitch, but not always as the paw doesn't hold stitches well. There's also the stuff the use to "glue" it together, (forget the name) that works well. As far as your question, you better take him to the vet. • Xebby Posted : 6/5/2006 6:55:55 PM Whow, don't go and sew it together yourself! Take your dog to a vet. Have the vet bandage it. The vet can bandage it in a way that is designed to stay on the dogs paw. • Kim Posted : 6/7/2006 4:48:25 PM My min-pin ripped a pad on his front foot recently.  I took him to the vet and they put ointment on it, cleaned it out really good, dried it and then tried to glue it. Needless to say, the glue didn't work.  When I went to change the bandage 2 days after they glued it, it was obvious that the glue didn't hold.  The vet then said to leave it unbandaged, put him in an E-Collar and to soak the foot in epsom salt several times a day.  The pad sloughed off a couple of days ago and you can see the new pad starting to callous up and reform.
