Should I be concerned...could it be...???

Well Beau suddenly started limping/not using his right rear leg as much.... one minute he was fine...and playing then he went in his crate and when we let him out he was not wanting to walk on this leg all of the sudden. I have tried moving it and putting pressure but he isnt whimpering or yelping...just nibbles at my hand if I do.. He walks on it some, but not the way he was before.... should I be concerned? I would think if it were a serious thing he would be in more pain and show it. Also I am super paranoid...could this be a sign of hip dysplasia....he's 5 months old and German Shorthaired Pointer..

I am hopeful its a sprain or strain.... He goes to the vet on Fri to be neutered and board for the wkend, so if its not better they will obviously look at it.... But for now we have just been limiting his activity so that he doesnt make it worse and to allow for some healing....

    What do you guys think???

Check his leg thoroughly for any bumps, swelling or heat (compared to the other leg), and also check his paw (did he step on anything?).

We had a dog with a torn ligament, who acted much like Beau is. We had her on glucosamine for about a month, which seemed to help (or maybe it was just time [8D]). It didn't interfere with her quality of life (she loved going for walks!), we just had to be careful that she didn't strain herself. There wasn't much that could be done because it was a partial tear--although a full tear would require surgery. They said we'd know if it tore fully, because she'd be unable to walk at all.

    Good luck! [:)]

I have done the checking...even looked in between his "toes" with a flash light....nothing there....

What was the outcome for your pup? It sounded like a pull or small tear. Is he okay now?
