I stepped on my puppy!

    I stepped on my puppy!

My little Gonzo was playing underfoot the day before yesterday when I accidentally stepped on his paw.   He screamed and cried like a baby and has been limping around ever since.  I am pretty sure it is one of his toes that is bothering him.  I told myself that if he wasn't better by today that I would make a vet appointment.  What should I do!?!  He cries when I wiggle his little toe, and I can tell there is discomfort.  I feel just awful watching the little fella limp around the house.

I would take him in to the vet.  Maybe they can bandage it make it heal right.

    Hi
I'm new to the forum today.  I would definitely say that a trip to your vet would be beneficial.  If your pup's foot is just bruised, at least you will have peace of mind in knowing what's going on.  Hope all turns out well.

chances are vet will just put bandage to imobilize the toe for a while   but there is always the possibilty  of a joint separation...get it checked

Thanks Guys!  I feel like an over-reacting parent, or something!!!  I made an appointment for tomorrow.  We have had him for about two weeks, and he hasn't had any of his shots, so he needed to go in for that anyways.

When Talus was a very young pup, she had a run in with a horse and got her paw stepped on, we immediatly called the vet and felt horribly guilty at our dog parenting, but the vet told us to just watch it for a while and if there was an extended limp or any sign of damage to bring her in, but otherwise a pup heals quick and it shouldn't be a problem. Granted, this was in Wyoming where horse dog interactions are quite common. I was a bit suprised the vet didn't even want to see her, but they were right, she turned out fine, with no long term ill effects (beyond a strong desire to chase horses, which we are still working on!)
