Lab acting strange

    Lab acting strange

Mr 3 yr old lab started acting strange this afternoon.  She is not being her usual lab self: following me everywhere, coming for treats, playing with my other lab....  She's very reluctant to walk anywhere and when she does she's doing it with her tail between her legs and will sit down next to me immediately.  There is a fire in the next state that we can smell and she seems to be smelling the air a lot and doesn't want to go outside.  She also is laying or sitting down all the time; she won't lay on her side or back and won't let me roll her over.  She's ok with me pushing in her stomach to see if it hurts and she doesn't seem like anything is hurting her physically.  Any advice?

    Hi Rosko.

If your lab is eating well and drinking well, I would guestimate that he/she is reacting to the scent in the air of "Danger" And is uncertain about the situation.
Especially if there is no fever or anything out of sorts. The smoke filled air is probably what the dog is hinky about.

I was going to ask the same thing,,,about eating and drinking. Somehow I feel that is important. If she is eating and drinking she is probably not sick.  I would watch her carefully for other symtoms and work from there, see if she shows any pain or weakness.  Good luck!

She's definitely eating but will not go to drink out of her water bowl in the kitchen, which leads to the backyard.  She'll drink if I bring her a bowl of water or out of the hose in the front.  She didn't go to the bathroom since 3 pm yesterday (maybe more) and didn't go this morning so we were going to take her to the vet but then she went while we were out.  We took her and my other lab to the park afterward to see how she was and she was completely fine and normal.  As soon as we came back home she wouldn't get out of the car and in the house started acting the same way again.  It seems like she's scared of something in the house or the backyard.  The dogs were only alone for 3 hours yesterday morning and my only conclusion is that something happened in the backyard during that time.

Well, I suppose if she is eating and drinking and her body functions are working,,,,that is a big thing to not have to worry about. Perhaps if its something that happened to scare her, she will forget about it in a day or so.   Maybe you can be with her and play with her in the places she seems to be afraid of and she will overcome it.   Good luck!
