I have a co-worker in Green Bay, whose dog has epilepsy. She is having a terrible experience with her vet, so I thought maybe a WI i-dogger could help her out. I live in KY, so I'm no help. Here is her email: "
My dog was diagnosed with epilepsy in July. I've been VERY disappointed with the care he has been receiving since then. His meds have been mislabeled. We learned more from the emergency room vet in 30 minutes one night, than we had from his regular vet in 8 months. It took 4 days and 2 phone calls to get a follow up call from our regular vet after his emergency room visit. I put him on home cooked food last month and 3 - 4 weeks later he had major back leg weakness. He can hardly walk now. His regular vet thought it was an inner ear infection. Antibiotics for 10 days didn't have any affect. She seems to be able to see facial droop on one side, dizziness and a balance problem. I don't see those things....but I'm not a trained vet. We are being sent to Madison for an MRI and a neurological workup. My vet thinks he might have a brain tumor...which could be the problem, but I keep doing more research. I asked my regular vet if the decrease in sodium in his home cooked food could have caused his leg weakness. From what I gather on the internet this affects his KBr (Potassium Bromide) absorption. My vet said "Oh, I never heard of that, but it makes sense to me"! That's where the subject ended. I don't think she's even looking into it. I insisted on a thyroid test and that it be sent to Dr. Dodds. Dr. Dodds said he has a thyroid problem that need to be medicated. My vet disagrees. I don't know who to go to. I might end up with a vet that knows even less than the one I have now. If you have any suggestions on how we can get help please let me know. I am hoping to get some concrete answers March 28th in Madison. Maybe they can give me a referral to someone in Green Bay better equipped to help us."
Please post any suggestions. Thanks for your help! [
