Any large dog owners

We feed him Eagle Pack, with a little(cooked) chicken on top, so he'll eat!!! For a dog that weighs 130 pounds at a year, one would think he would like to eat, not baldwin.
Its been about a week or so and no puke.

Our Ollie the Great Dane didn't eat much when he was having allergy problems.  He went for over a year with us kind of coaxing him to eat, he got pretty skinny. He was eating Canidea for a while, thought it was great and all of a sudden he stopped eating it also. He has been on Eagle Pack now for a long time and LOVES to eat. He also gets either some lightly cooked turkey, beef or pork on top.

Is your dog a gulper or a chewer ? I have a black lab that pukes after every meal that he's 'gulped'.  Never fails...if he woofs, he barfs and ALWAYS on the carpet. Never on the tile ! He will actually go out of his way to go barf on the carpet. I just scoop it up real quick w/a dustpan and a spatula and then spray it down w/some pet stain remover right away, let it sit and then blot up the stain.
I always thought it was something in particular that the dog ate but it's purely from just eating too fast. Their stomachs get full of air on top of all of that undigested food . That causes expansion and then compulsive vomiting to ease the pressure. That's probably what's going on w/your dog.  My dog is otherwise very healthy. I just worry about this and he also has a problem w/a collapsing trachea. I'm thinking THAT could have been aggravated by all the vomiting he does because vomiting causes strain on the esophagus and throat muscles. :(

Can raising their food dishes help with gulping?  One of our dogs, not nearly that big!, but she used to gulp her food.  We stuffed her dish with toys and/or large rocks to get her to fish around more for her food.  She occasionally barfed it all back up and none of it was chewed.  She has since slowed down and actually chews now.

I would NEVER feed a large dog in anything but elevated dishes.

I think some dogs are just "pukers".  Slick is one - he pukes up pretty much any foreign substance that he's swallowed.  None of my past Labs were pukers - they were "passers" :)

Occassionally it's just bile and unless there are other problems - I don't worry about it.  If he's not keeping ANYTHING down and he's not eliminating, I would be concerned about a blockage.

Raised dishes for sure!  I was taking care of a friends dog that vomited a lot.  He mostly did it at home where he ate from a dish on the floor.  I fed him from an elevated dish.  His mom got him an elevated dish at home and he improved a lot.  His problem was diagnosed as Mega Esophagus (really not sure if that is correct spelling).  We later had him stand with his front feet on a bench, and hand fed him from above his head.  He did very well  when fed like that!

Elevated dishes are the best for a dog of that size! I have worked at pet Resort (That I no longer work at because of the lack of careing for the dogs) and sadly but true I have seen dogs that have gotten the Bloat from eating out of a non elevated dishes. And it is nothing that I would like to see again!!! So I always think it is a good idea to do!!

My LARGE Lab had horrible vomiting sessions about once a month. It turned out he had IBD, which we control with a hypo-allergenic diet.
