DEMODEX

    • Puppy

    Hello Everyone,

I'm new here, and would like to say this is the best dog forum that I've found yet!  :)  Thanks for all of the information that I've found on here thus far.

I am posting to request the article from calliecritturs about the treatments for demodex mange.  I have a foster dog who is having a terrible outbreak, and this is my first time dealing with this problem.  From what I've read on this forum it was probably his Rabies vaccination that triggered the onset.  I feel so bad for him.  :(  Promeris is on it's way for treatment, but I read that it's a carcinogen which freaked me out.  I'd like to try the suggestions on this site, but I fear that it's been active for too long already although it's stil worth trying.

I just ordered some Timberwolf dog food for him, and am trying to find the shampoo but haven't found it yet.  If someone could help guide me through administering the proper supplements I would really appreciate any help.

Thank you, and sorry if I should have started a new thread.  Could a moderator move this post if necessary please?

    Have a great day!

    Kristin

to the right of the title of my post are 3 buttons "Reply" "Favorites" and "Contact".  Click on contact and then EMAIL.  You have to email me, not PM me.  The article is in Word -- too long to PM to you (it's like 23 pages long).

Include any info for me you can.  Specifically how old the dog is, when the mange popped up, what breed(s) the dog is, what is being done as treatment now (be specific please including any pharmaceuticals the vet's given).

Promeris is dangerous.  I'm not going to pretend I like it.  It's not just that it's mitaban -- but it's systemic.  the stuff doesn't stay on the skin it goes IN the bloodstream.  tooo scarey (and I've used buckets of mitaban in the past -- but the idea of it being IN the blood is horrifying to me IMO)

If you want to include your phone number -- or if you want I'll send you mine.  But often these things get complicated and talking on the phone is easier.

My husband and I have dealt with many demodex dogs over the past 10 years.  If you want to see our latest project, look at the threads about Lulu Bear -- she's a little demodex female we're going to travel 1500 miles to go adopt (yes, I AM certifiable!!  I'm going out of my way to GET a dog with demodex ... just so we can help her!!)'

Our way is a lot of work but it WORKS.  Truly.  It's trying to get the dog healthy enough and with a responsive enough immune system so it can move on in life.  I'm glad to try to help you.

    Callie

Thanks for the quick and helpful replies.  :)  It's a relief to know that there are people who can, and will help.

i AGREE WITH CALLIE--I WOULD NOT USE PROmERIS.  I HAVE READ MANY REPORTS OF DOGS GETTING SICK AFTER IT IT WAS USED ON THEM, AND ALL REPORT THE HORRIBLE SMELL.  THE BUSINESS MANAGER AT MY VET'S SAID WHEN IT WAS BROUGHT INTO THEM BY SALES REP, IT MADE HER GAG.

IT IS MADE BY FORT DODGE, WHO ALSO MADE THE PROHEART6 HEARTWORM PREVENTATIVE (6 MONTHS INJECTABLE) THAT CAUSES SO MANY SEVERE REACTINS AND KILLED SO MANY DOGS A FEW YEARS--IT KILLED MY 4 YEAR OLD GOLDEN RETRIEVER, HUNTER.  THE FDA HAD THEM PULL IT FROM THE MARKET 10 MONTHS AFTER HUNTER'S DEATH.  IT WAS REMOVED SEPT. 3, 2004, BUT IS JUST NOW BEING ALLOWED BACK ON UNDER ALL KINDS OF WRNINGS, ETC.  BACK THEN THEY HAD CLAIMED IT WAS SO SAFE, DENIED THE REACTIONS AND DEATHS EE DUE TO IT, BUT NOW THEY ARE SAYING IT HAS BEEN REMORMATTED AND THE "RESUDE" SUSPECTD OF CAUSING THE RECTINS HAS BEEN REMOVED.
