• Possible problem with newly adopted husky Mike Davis Posted : 6/15/2006 1:44:35 AM After much research and preparation, I adopted a 3 year old siberian husky today from a fairly local animal rescue.  He seemed quite happy to be out of the rescue, and was doing just fine up until a bit ago.  Since he's been home here, he hasnt had much energy at all (just wants to lay around and sleep) and he has thrown up a number of times.  Initially, he was interested in water and small treats, but now he wont eat or drink at all. The rescue noted that he likely had "kennel cough" when we adopted him today, and provided us with two medications for which we were instructed to give to him twice a day.  He has a very "runny" nose - lots of mucus. He has pooped once since he has been home, and it looked pretty normal. Any input would be greatly apperciated! • forpaws Posted : 6/15/2006 4:52:26 AM Hi Mike and welcome to the forum/   Congrats on your new addition too, however, I would take him to a vet to be seen since it does not sound to me like KC. And if it is the medication they gave you doesn't seem to be helping and may need something stronger.   Keep us posted on what the vet said. Please post pictures of your furkid since that is the price to pay here on this forum.. • Mike Davis Posted : 6/15/2006 8:24:52 AM hey guys - thanks for the welcomes and input.  Just some more info:  He is current on all of his shots, and tested neg for heartworm on 6/1/06.  I try and get him to the vet today per your recommendations.  I'll let you know how it goes. • Mike Davis Posted : 6/15/2006 6:52:25 PM We took Loki to the vet this afternoon, and he determined that he probably had some sort of infection.  He gave Loki an antibiotic shot and he's already acting much better.  I've got him eating rice, but he still wont touch his food.  Maybe he's just a fussy eater! • glenmar Posted : 6/15/2006 7:08:18 PM I'm glad to hear that he's picking up.  HOWEVER, you want to nip picky eating in the bud.   I feed my shepherds Innova in the morning and either homecooked or raw at nite.  If by some chance someone doesn't eat, the bowl goes away and they do without until the next regular feeding time.  With MY dogs if that happens I keep a very close eye on them because mine will eat what they are given when they are given it and not eating is a sign that someone isn't feeling well.  Being willing to eat what I give them is important to me because quite often the first sign of illness IS not eating.  Plus, I'm not a short order cook and I'm not gonna cater to picky eaters, human or canine. 0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available.
