I use Frontline Plus. I think each person has his own favorite, but I also think we all agree that the over the counter (Hartz, etc) does not do the job and is actually more dangerous to use. When I was a kid, the only ones were over the counter like Hartz and Sargeant's (?) but neither were that good and if they did kill fleas it wa only for a few days.
Some like to use the kind like Revolution that is heartworm and flea and tick combined, but I won't use it--first my vet won't carry it because to many of his clients dogs did come down with heartworms while on it. And 2ed, we do actually have parts of the year where we don't see fleas and ticks and I do not want to add anything to my dog's body that I don't need to.
Some like the Advantix (I think that is the one) that repels mosquitoes aslo, but I have heard from vet techs and others on other forums that that repellant only lasts a couple of weeks.
So really it us just up to each individual as to what they want and what they believe is best for their dogs.
