    SOPHIE UPDATE

Some of the older members might remember Sophie my GSD with Crytoccocus.  I just wanted to give an update on my Sophie.  After 9 months of intense treatment and thousands of dollars later the Cryto is still with her.  The lab figgurs that her fungus has become imune to the drugs and she will never be cured.  All is not bleak though she was put on a maintance dose of the drug and is holding her own.  She is as lively as ever, and back competing in flyball until recently.  I know that she will not live her normal life span with this deadly fungus but she doesn't know that and is a very happy dog.

She as also develoved a limp in her left back leg after off leash exercise.  She has had a full set of x-rays they came back clear for any joint problems.  It's not her ligaments or tendons.  Thinking it might be a soft tissue injury that never got a chance to heal properly she has been on leash exercise only for the past month and a half. Drove her nuts having restricted exercise.  I gave her 15 minutes off leash time a few days ago and she was a bit lame again.  She has always been fine on her off leash hikes and runs like the wind.  The lameness shows up 2 to 4 hours after exercise never during exercise. She is only 4 but we are all tending to lean towards arthritis with everything else being clear and the fact it always showed up a couple of hours after exercise. She is on syn-flex and we will see if that help if not what does everyone think of cartrophen injections?

Well I was wondering about Sophie....I guess its good new/bad news.  But MOSTLY GOOD,,,because she is happy and that is all that counts!
Hope her injury heals very quickly so she could be out there exercising.

Not sure what cartrophen injections are.

Thanks Dyan I hope we get to the bottom of this too.
    How is Bubblegum doing?

Bubblegum is coming along just fine...getting thru her many issues we had with her when we got her. Don't think she will ever be what I would have wanted in one way, but she is oh so much more in another.

Please keep us updated on Sophie!  Hope she gets back to par soon!
