    NEW HEARTWORM/FLEA TOPICAL TREATMENT

Okay, I knew this was coming, but didn't know until today that is is on the market in Australia. One on another board was surfing around looking for cheaper pet meds and came upon this ped meds place in Australia and they were advertising this. However as I looked around i also found it was "not available to US customers". I don't know if that means it isn't FDA approved or not, but here is their ad for it..or the one for small dogs.

I didn't find a total listing of ingredients, but it does contain Moxidectin (that was the ingredient in ProHeart6 that killed my Hunter) and imidacloprid, which I have never heard of and haven't scouted out. But I gotta say, I have my doubts about this it. I mean, it TREATS and PREVENTS heartworms, kills fleas, intestinal worms, mange and lice. It doesn't say anything about ticks, tho.

I also found a field study done in Europe which was long, long, long and was mostly mumbo-jumbo to me. This is some of what it said. They started with 72 dogs in 3 countries, but 3 were pulled because they were "wrongfully included" (whatever that means) and 6 others were pulled becuase of protocal deviations.

It states that the dogs were given 2 to 4 treaments at 4 week intervlas (I take that to mean some only had it for 2 months, others for 4. Wonder why all didn't go the full 4 months, and even that is not long enough to convince me it is safe.

Then on down it says "Spot-on-treatment with imidacloprid and moxidectin was well tolerated by the dogs in this study, with only one milk, possible drug related Adverse Reaction (vomiting) among the 36 treated animals. This confirms the safety....."

I get lost there. They started with 72, weeded out 9, and then it gets down to the 36 treated animals. I wonder if this is the number that went the full 4 months/4 treatments. To me, when a number is started and by the end the number is half as many, i tend to wonder what is going on.__________________

This is only my experience with Revolution.....but I found that it did NOTHING for fleas.  The vet tried to blame it on being a really bad flea year, but it wasn't.  The summer before when I couldn't go to the freezer in my garage without hosing my legs off....literally BLACK from the knee down with fleas.....THAT was a bad flea year (and my dogs didn't go into the garage)  So my concern about this product is that if it doesn't do ONE promised job (a job I can see for myself) is it doing the OTHER promised jobs that I CAN'T see without bloodwork?

All Glenda said and more -- bottom line, Revolution is systemic.  It goes in your dog's body and STAYS there for at least a month.  There's been lots of problems with Revolution.  It's touted for convenience -- and that's really it's big selling point.  like how hard is it to give them their heartworm pill and Frontline on the same day??

I won't use anything systemic -- it probably particularly bothers me that Revolution goes on the skin (like some folks think it STAYS there) and sinks into the blood stream from there.

In order to kill ANY parasite, the flea, sarcoptic mite, ANYTHING has to **bite** the dog first.  So what the heck good is it??

There's just no satisfactory proof to ME that it even leaves the body after a month -- that was the problem with ProHeart 6 -- it was *supposed* to get out of the body and didn't.  I won't use it.
