Sick puppy... need advice asap :(

Also even IF the shots were in effect, they are not always 100% reliable right???  I just learned this.  So, that in itself makes me worry about that vet.

Just one more update... Daisy definitely seems to have perked up a little bit this morning. She kept her pill down last night and hasn't thrown up anymore since then. I fed her a tiny bit of her dry food with yogurt like the vet recommended, and she did fine with that. I'm so happy she's feeling better! [:)]

Daisy you cutie pie... tell you momma to read this on Girardia. Its nasty stuff to get rid of... make sure you are picking up the poop in the yard and I even go as far as putting bleach on the areas my dogs went when they all 5 had it.... cause it never dies in lives on in the yard and you don't want her reinfecting herself or any other pet  you may have.

I did the metronidrozole... it didn't work... sure it seemed to and would come right back a couple weeks after being on it...

If you read Lynda's article on Girardia here and how to properly treat it with Panacur you will get rid of it for sure. I finally had to print that off send it to my Vet and say..LOOK this is the PROGRAM we are going to do....after dealing with Girardia for 4 months....talk about a nightmare.... I truly feel it cause havoic on my Male Scottie and he now suffers for IBD.

Good luck with your baby... As for your Vet... I would have a few choice words with that clinic and find a more caring on. Geese my Vets office would be telling me to get her right in if that was going on. Sounds like they aren't listening you or are to busy or don't care too.

I am soooo glad to read that Daisy is feeling a little better today.  I agree w/ Dyan, I'd be having a discussion with the regular vet about their lack of concern.  I am sorry it was an extended visit with the evet, but the alternative could've been much worse.

Cheers and belly rubs for the pup!

An 11 week old puppy with runny poop and throwing up and the vet says nothing to worry about!  Doesn't this vet know how fast a puppy can get dehydrated.  And any time a dog has throwing up and runny poop and is not himself at all IS SOMETHING to worry about.  I would be telling that vet a thing or two and then finding another one.  I mean, this kind of thing is bad enough on grown dogs, but far worse in puppies as they can go down hill, get dehydrated, develope a  high fever in no time at all.

Since I have 3 golden retrievers, this is especially of interest to me.

Yeah, I'd have an "exit interview" conversation with that vet IN WRITING (like "Dear Vet -- I'm Never coming back BECAUSE:________").

That was an appalling way to treat you ... no wonder you were so worried!  I'm glad you at least found good treatment.

Like the others said i would really go talk to this vet and tell them why you are leaving because I had the same problem when my Great Dane was sick.  The vet thought I was worried about why she had lost so much weight because she had lost about 5 lbs. I knew why because she hadn't eaten in a few days and we ran all the blood test and xrays and it turned up that she was a healthy pup.  He wanted to do an emergency spay for $900 even tho the xrays and blood tests came up normal.  Then he said she my have worms that didn't show up in the stool sample.  But now she is back to normal with just my care no medical help.  I'm going to try a different vet now but want all her paper work and xrays for the new vet.

Your puppy is a cutie!!! I am glad she is doing better.  Have you found another vet? I had a vet who was great w/the animals, but horrible w/people.  Every concern I had she blew off,  my dog was about to tear his penis off and she told me "all dogs lick and bite their penis all the time".  I had a couple of carefully chosen words, because I could have gotten ugly, took my dog and went somewhere else, I have been with this new vet now 1 1/2 yrs.  I had only had my dog for a couple of months and even as a first timer I knew it was not normal for a dog to be biting and licking his penis every 5 minutes.  She tried to sell me some adrenal gland powder told me it was a dysfunction of the pituitary gland, but that it was normal too.  Some vets are quacks. You Daisy is adorable, I'm so happy to hear she's getting better and that you're going to change Vets. Keep her Healthy and Happy and lots of "puppy dust" for you. :)

Oh Daisy...don't worry your mom like that! Giardia is a nasty little devil! Our trip to the emergency vet (when Marley was 12 weeks old) made us get insurance!!! [:-]
