It's SO individual -- but often you have to give it for several days to see any real result -- in my own simplistic mind I always figure it's because their whole nose/Jacobsen's Organ thing is SO complicated ... what all allergens have they breathed in that are just sitting in the Jacobsen's Organ waiting to be distributed thru the body.

Man, and I think MY allergies are bad -- I'd hate to be a dog with allergies. sheesh

Oh man, last year I tried to give Eevee Benedryl (at vet-recommended dose) and she barfed EVERYWHERE! >O_O;< That was the last time I tried that lmfao...

Throwing up would be a really rare and extreme reaction to Benedryl.

Hi, all! Well I just wanted to let you all know that Angel is fine. She got all better, but we will no longer be using that vet. I have been asking around about vets here, and I have gotten some great info on good and bad ones! Thanks for all the advice![:D]

Hi, thanks for the update.  I'm happy to hear Angel is doing fine now.

Great news for Angel!! Thanks for letting us know!
I'm glad you found a new vet also,,,some are good and some are not,,just like everything else I guess.  Yours was way too passive on what could have been an emergency!
Good for you for taking the initiative to get things done!

I was a vet tech intern at Petsmart Banfield Hospital.  I only worked there a short time and saw so many allergic reactions,,,almost dying pets rushed back in 20 mins after they left.

It was my job to prepare vaccines and I would line up to 3 syringes per pet.  I just couldn't believe that they would do this.  I jsut knew that litlle Shi-TZU would be back almost dying.   I listened to the vet and tech say 'well gotta call Dodge again ( to report the near death)"  (Fort Dodge makes the vaccines).  At Petsmart, they sell you a $200 plan that includes all these shot and these customers want their money's worth.  Idiots!  While one senior tech agreed with me,  I could not complain too much because the vet was also my instructor at the college.

I quit my vet-tech carreer because I could no longer ethically be a part of givng vaccines.

I only give the law-required rabies to my dogs and stay away from dog parks or unknown dogs.

Ok, so I reported that Angel is fine and she seems to be, but there is a lump on her back where she had the shot. I know that they some times leave a swollen spot for a few days but how long do they last. Should I be worried that it is something more serious? I am not sure what else it could be if it is not the lump from the shot. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

Sometimes the lumps (from vax injections) last several weeks.  If it persists, however, I would contact your vet.

Mom ... you might try "plucking" at the lump.  Not hard and not to be painful.  But simply pick up that lump gently but firmly in between forefinger and thumb and let it 'snap' back.  Do that 2-3 times or until the dog looks around and objects.  That's 'enough' for today.

But do it every day -- it will stimulate the site and get blood to circulate there -- even if you only get a couple of 'plucks' in == it WILL help it dissipate (that from my holistic vet who is also a 'teaching' vet).

Thanks so much! I just thought it was odd that it has lasted longer than when she got the Rabies vaccine. I will try that callie and let you know how it works. Thanks again.....I love this site because it helps me understand more about my dog and I feel I can better care for her![:D]

Hey, it has been a while since I have been on, but I am back about Angel having hives. This time I don't know where they came from. I gave her Benadryl as soon as I saw them about 10-15 mins. ago. I was just curious if anybody had advice on if it may be allergies or what. Let me know. Thanks for any help you may have.
