Hello All,
Since many of you have been very helpful, I need some advice on LymDyp. My 15 month old mini-dachshund has racked up nearly 7 grand in vet bills over 3 different vets (one a specialist) and NO ONE can tell me anything definitive.
I believe he has sarcoptic mange. He has the terrible itching, crusty ring around the edges of the ears, he demonstrates the scratch reflex when the pinnae are rubbed and has recently started getting the crusts in the 'armpits'. He also has small red lines culminating in a very small crusty patch on the insides of both ears. I'm no vet but they sure look like sarcoptic mite burrows.
The vets insist that since they can't find the mite on any scrapings (they've maybe done 2 between the 3 of them) that they aren't there. I disagree (since both UT and MSU's veterinary colleges research suggest that only 50% of the time can the sarcoptic mite be found on a scraping or biopsy) and would like to dip him with LymDyp.
The issue is that he is also on an antiobiotic (Clavamox) due to a secondary bacterial infection he got from the constant scratching and an antihistamine due to the scratching. The antihistamine I can stop for the month or so he needs to be dipped but I can't stop the course of antibiotics and don't want to wait until they're done to try to help him. Does anyone know if the LymDyp will affect the effectiveness of Clavamox? The vets won't even discuss it with me because they want me to bring him in AGAIN and have him tested AGAIN and put the poor little darling through months and months more of blood tests, biopsies and skin scrapings that lead to nowhere while he sits around and suffers [

] whereas I'd like to treat for what seems likely AS LONG AS IT'S SAFE TO DO.
I have already switched him to Nature's Balance duck and potato dog food in case it's a food allergy (my own idea, the vets wanted to do a few more tests) and I've been using some of Callie's home remedies for itching but I've got to get this under control and if that means I have to do it myself then I will. He's suffering and I just will NOT have it anymore.
If anyone has any information they can share regarding the safety of the LymDyp and its effects (if any) on antibiotics, I would really appreciate it.
