I would call the vet or go see the vet..

When my lab had an upset stomach after eating a bone he shouldnt have .  he had Diarrhea for several days and the vet told me he could have keopectate (sp??) and Imodium.  And we just had to watch him at night to make sure i could get him outside fast enough this went on for about 2 weeks... needless to say he doesnt get any bones but rawhide ones now...  he was still eating but just had the runs a lot for those two weeks...

Canned pumpkin (the real thing, not the pie mix) also helps with diarrhea. It makes stool firmer, which also helps dogs who have anal sac issues.  Also, be sure that your dog isn't becoming dehydrated from pooping too much. You might want to grab a bottle of Pedialyte to keep on hand. Now, if you suspect that your dog is having problems much deeper than just loose stool, you'll want to get her to the vet asap. Good luck!

I'd try the pumpkin and pedialite first, before any human treatments.  I've read that kaopectate has changed the formula and is no longer safe for dogs.

Ok, I'm gonna jump in and ask WHY you are worried about the liver?  Has that been a problem in the past??

The vet is the first stop, and at that age, you want to do a senior blood panel almost first.

Liver and renal failure both signal with upset stomachs -- but liver failure is because the toxins dump from the liver right to the brain -- so it's more a perceived nausea -- and they tend to just plain NOT eat -- rather than throw up what they have eaten.  But there are meds that can help that nausea.

In other words, don't just be afraid -- take some steps.

you can do pepto, you can use a lot of things, but at this stage with something that's gone on 24 hours I wouldn't band-aid it -- I'd find out what's causing it.  If it IS liver problems you'd better know so you can DO something.

Pepto Bismol is fine for dogs...we've given it to our dogs many times...but be prepared,,,, none of our dogs liked it so it took 3 of us to get it down Ollie (Great Dane) throat.  ONE to hold him, one to hold his mouth open and one to pour it in. THEN,,,hold his mouth shut until he swallows. And at that, he shook and shook his head and we had pink stuff all over. Do it outside it your wise.
Like mentioned above, canned pumpkin is good, but it really never worked for us when there was an illness involved,,,,but in general it does tend to firm the stool up a bit.
Yeah, if you do suspect a liver problem, you would probably have to take him to the vet for help.

I think that Pepto would be fine for many dogs, but this is an issue in an older dog who's Mom has concerns about his liver, so I'd be getting him to the vet, right away.
