Same time last year

    Same time last year

Sioux had a clear discharge from one nostril last year - went to the vet who didn't really find anything wrong but a "mild irritation".
The other day, I look at her little liver colored nose, and there's a crusty patch on it and the nostril looks a little irritated.  So, I called the clinic to see how long ago her visit was for the other nasal issue and they said April 15 last year.  I'm thinking seasonal allergy!  Last year, no crustiness, though.  They suggested I give her some benadryl.  Have any of you had similar problems?  One of the other dogs has an appt next week, so I could do a swap if I needed to get her in.

Sad to say, it's the same here.  Sassy never is "allergy-free" but the last couple weeks, she's been showing more signs than usual.  Not only does she get the runny nose, but she also gets goopy eyes.  If Sioux isn't showing any other problems though, I'd hold off on the Benadryl.  Not that there's any harm in it and I use it pretty regularly, but if it's just a little post-nasal drip, it might not be necessary.
The scary thing here is that they say that the worst allergy problems are "yet to come" [:(]

yep, sounds exactly like allergy symptoms to me. Sometimes it dries on and gets a bit funky looking. A warm rag will get rid of it. Better than getting a big juicy sneeze in the face, eh?
Tyler has it almost all year. In fact, Gramma now has him trained to come so he get his nose and eyes wiped with a tissue - she just says "Tyler, come blow your nose".

You ought to see it! It is so funny to see my 86 year old paralyzed grandmother make this hyper dog sit still for his Kleenex moment. Of course, the starlight mints she freely hands out aren't a bad reward either. He is addicted to mints.

My old dog Cindy used to have a nose so dry looking it even looked like it was cracked in places.  Never thought in those days of allergies, she was healthy in every way.  Now that I think of it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Actually, Sioux sneezes on command anyway, LOL.  She doesn't seem terribly bothered, she just has that little irritated nose, so I am not doing the benedryl thing.  Thanks for the warm cloth idea.  I'll try that!
