Yipe Glenda, I didn't get your email!! I'm glad I happened to see this!
In honesty, the only alternative would be to use a vet who does traditional Chinese veterinary medicine -- I would think they would be able to give a blood tonic that would help and would also be able to tell you what to do to help it diet-wise.

They have a locator that will find someone close to you. I've found it to be an excellent source. The Chinese (and this doesn't mean the vet is Chinese but rather that the vet has studied oriental medicine) see the blood as sort of the pathway to health -- and something to tonify the blood is often super helpful.
They won't run a ton more tests -- typically your first visit is going to cost about $120 BUT the vet will be with the dog & you an hour or so (not five minutes) -- and that will also include treatment with acupuncture or whatever the vet thinks is important. It's a whole different type of exam -- and should help.
Do take all your vet records and the tests to this new vet -- get copies from your vet or tell them to fax them to the other vet. I'm not telling you to leave your vet permanently or anything -- JUST to get a second consult on this. The dog may have to be seen a few times for treatment, but altho there may be some herbs to take (not American herbs -- but Chinese herbs which are pretty strong and effective medicine). They aren't usually expensive -- the ones my dogs get I buy online. Just don't try to diagnose this yourself -- but get the right kind of help here, and it should be far less scarey.
I assume the vet ruled out any sort of internal bleeding. Any ideas on what may have caused this??
