lab puppy 4mo, vomiting for 2 days...?

    hi,
i have a 4-month-old chocolate lab female puppy that recently started vomiting her food. i regularly feed her twice a day, at the same time. yesterday, she vomited about 15min after eating. she was rough housing and playing so i figured she just got a little nauseated from playing too quickly after eating. later that night, i fed her a little bit, thinking she was probably a bit hungry. she vomited that within 5min.

both times, i didnt see anything remarkable in her vomit. it was basically what you'd have if you soaked dog food in water for a few minutes. she is not diarrhetic and shows no other symptoms; she's as playful and energetic as always, not moody, nothing.

this morning, she vomited about 5min after feeding her. i feed her hill's science diet puppy food, and have been ever since i got her at 7 weeks. she has never objected to the food.

the only thing i kinda noticed the first time she vomited, is that she was a lot less motivated to eat. (usually, she'll eat it all in one go.) but the 2nd and 3rd time she vomited, it was just like normal.

i know infrequent vomiting is normal. am i overreacting? should i be worried?

    thanks

I would watch closely.  If it continues in the same pattern for another day, I would go get it checked out even if just for peace of mind.

I azgree with mrv.  Another thing, is the puppy drinking water and keeping it down?  If not, then vet ASAP to avoid dehydration.  My golden girl came down with a virus a couple years ago and was throwing up every few minutes and got dehydrated in no time.  Spent the day at the vet getting tests and being rehydrated.

    thanks for the replies.

after a bit of extra research, i decided to feed her a bland mix of rice and chicken breast. she's holding it down just fine; have already fed her twice today, in two small portions.

as for the question about holding down water... she drank a ton of water and it seemed it went right through her, not in diarrhea, but just urine.

im going to feed her another small portion tonight, then try her out on her normal kibble tomorrow afternoon.

If you're pup is drinking an excessive amount of water..I would take her in to the vet...better to be safe than sorry.....if she is throwing up right after you feed...it might be something in the food not agreeing with her...maybe a change of food might help

I think maybe eating too fast can cause that too.  Or, maybe something did irritate her stomach and a bland diet is a good idea for a few days.
    Hope she feels better soon.

    2 things come to mind:

    1)  Hills cat foods have been recalled.  No dog foods have, but I am very suspect and if it were me I would not even feed the Hills dog food.  Foods that I know of that have not been recalled are brands by Natura (Innova, California Natural), Nature's Variety, (I can't think of any more this second  b/c I just got in and am tired....).  I have been keeping current thru:  petfoodtracker.com (pet food tracker) on the recalled foods.  If a dog is not accepting a food, that can be a sign that dog knows more than you do about the health aspects of that food.

    2) What I said just now about the food goes for food allergy issues as well as bad, tainted food.  I have a food allergy girl and she threw up all the time when she was young.  I didn't know then that throwing food up alot is a sign of a food allergy.  In which case, if you can, it would be better to limit your choices to foods with few ingredients until you know for sure.  Calinfornia Natural is my favorite pick for allergy issues and should work well unless your dog is allergic to the grains in them. They have one meat source, one grain, and one fat source.  So, if you can, try this and not give any store bought treats AT ALL.  Really. Instead, give little bits of fresh veggies (no onions, ever).  Things like carrot, brocooli, cauliflower, apple, bananna, etc for treat training.  Don't give alot - especially of the fruit b/c it might cause loose stools. But, Little bits of store bought treats caused a lot of problems with my girl.  You wouldn't think a few treats could be bad, but they sure can if it's a food allergy issue., so stay with real food treats until you find out if her throwing up continues.

And, as others said, you may need a check up with the vet.  I am not downplaying seeing a vet for a checkup, just throwing out two other possible ideas.
