    Cujo Sick again with tonsilitis

Cujo had a relapse. After the last round of Baytril Cujo was himself for about a week, but over the weekend he had a relapse. He was again lethargic and at one point I took him outside and he tried to play a bit but just had to lay down I had to carry  him back in the house. I took him back to the vet this morning.  He is back on the Baytril and on cough tablets to dry out the secretions in his throat. She said if this doesn't work or comes back after he will have to have his tonsils removed.
The worse thing is I am hearing from some people all ready that its time to let him go. That I have spent to much on him already.   Cujo isn't ready to give up and either am I. He is eating, drinking, and playing in short spurts, and I just can't believe  this can't be treated with success

I'm sorry that Cujo's sick again and I've dealt with the same comments from people, so I know how much it hurts to hear those things.  Cujo's yours though and only you can make decisions like that, so just let it roll off your shoulder.  As long as the vet is willing to try to help him, then why shouldn't you continue too?  Is the tonsilectomy considered a risky surgery?  Poor Cujo, I hope this round of Baytril clears things up and he doesn't need anything more.

I really don't know a lot about it. I do know in dogs the tonsils are part of the immune system and much more important than in humans so its  not a treatment of choice. Its just for chronic conditions with no underlaying cause. I wish I could find out more  but so far no luck.

I'm so sorry that Cujo's sick again; maybe he wasn't on the antibiotics long enough before, and the infection improved but didn't clear up completely. I agree with Cathy wholeheartedly; you're the only one who has the right to decide what's best for Cujo. Don't let other people's comments bother you; to so many of them, he's "just a dog". I'll be sending healing vibes your way and pray that he doesn't need the surgery.

I cannot see giving up on Cujo as long as your vet is willing to treat him and is not telling you that it would be best just to let him go, you know that you love Cujo enough to do the right thing when the situation warrants and you will know in your heart when it is truly that time. Some people will never understand the love we have for our furry little BABIES and the bond that deepens over time, also the need and the appreciation that we have for their undying loyalty and unconditional love of us in return. They cannot understand that because our furbabies love us without boundaries we, in return, set no boundaries as to what lengths we will go to for their health, well-being, and happiness. I'm sending loads of healing prayers for your Cujo! [sm=angel.gif]
