Black Spot in Eye

"We always noticed this black spot in our dogs eye and we thought it was just part of the color of his eye. Recently we noticed that it was moving around. He has had the spot for all of his life so it is not just something that is stuck. Can anyone tell me what it could be? If you need more details just tell me."

    The only way to know if this is serious or not is to take him to the vet soon, rather than waiting until June.

My basset hound Fred has what seems to be the same thing. It is a black spot that actually moves around at the bottom of his left eye. I brought him to the Vet for an eye check. I remember the Vet saying it was nothing to worry about, and he is correct. Fred has now had this for about 5 years, it has not gotten any bigger, nor caused any harm to his eye or vision.

Thank you for the replies.  It's definitely not Pannus given the symptoms that are described.  I'll give my Vet a call and see what they think.  The melanoma thing is worrisome, but I'm glad that Fred's turned out to be nothing, that does sound very similar.  Dogluvr, you would happen to have any pictures of Fred's eye, would you?
