    Lymes disease

Just over this past weekend I acquired a new dog.  Sadie was boarding long term at my work and the owner saw no end to it in the near future and I agreed to take her home.  At any rate.  Sadie is a 4 year old 60lb mix breed female.  She is friendly and fitting in well.  About a year ago she tested postive for Lymes disease and the owner says he treated her, but never had her retested.  She was an outdoor dog of a back yard breeder (Sadie is spayed, and owner no longer has any dogs).  Anyway, fast forward to today.  I took her to the vet and had her retested for Lymes and she is a strong positive.  She is showing no signs of muscle or joint pain, but I am unsure as to the rest of the symptoms.  She is way more layed back than the rest of my dogs (many who are older), and she seems to be picky about her food but she does eat, she got depressed at work (but I would expect that as well), since I haven't had her long I don't know if she is exhibiting clinical symptoms or if this is just her.  The previous owner is not much help or even very concerned.  I discussed it with the vet and we opted to start antibiotics to be on the safe side.  However, I am very concerned in the aspect that the vet seems to think that this is a continuation of the origninal diagnosis a year ago.  I keep hearing that for success you need to start treatment early, and I am doubting a year later is what they mean by that.  Does anyone have any experience with this disease in dogs.  This is my first.  She is a wonderful dog and my kids love her, I want her to be with us and happy for many more years to come.  Here is a pic of her with my girls.
edited to add she is the one in the middle, Guido is peeking in from the left side
