Vomiting Blood.

Ever since we'd gotten Zero (my boyfriend's baby husky) on January 5th, things seemed to be a little odd. The first day, the car ride got to him so he did vomit a bit, but once he got setteled in, he absolutely loved it. His nose always seemed dry though. He would always drink plenty of water, and he never acted strange as if he was sick, because was always so sweet and was always playing, biting, chewing on his toys, running around, ect.

Well, today around 4am I got a phone call saying that Zero was vomiting blood and kept trying to go to the bathroom, but when he made a bowel movement it was a little runny, with blood also. Of course, as soon as the vet opened, my boyfriend took him. My boyfriend said he was drinking water, but hadn't aten in about a day and hadn't slept much either. I had to go to school so I couldn't go to the vet with them. At 10:30 when he picked me up I found out that he was just extremely dehydrated and we have to give him a pill everynight with this certain type of food they gave us to feed him while he's sick.

I'm sorry this is so long, but they said in a week when the pills are gone (because we have 7) if he isn't better we have to take him back ..also if anyone in the house gets flu like symptoms he has some disease, but again since I wasn't there I don't know what it was. Does this sound right to everyone? I kept thinking it was something internally ..but all this just really be from being dehydrated and possibly lack of sleep?

If he is throwing up blood and has blood in poop, I would say there is something wrong in his digestive system, be it a parasite or a disease of some kind, an infection or something he injested. But since i have no idea if x-rays were done or what tests were done, i really do not know what to tell you. But i sure h ope that cute little guy comes around.

aagree with the above...and the blood vessels on the gut in a dog are closer to the surface and a little mor fragile than other animals so blood is more common..that does not make this situation any the less serious so I think everything should be done to find the cause and possiby at this points antispasmotice etc might be necessary

When my Prissy (this was like 36 years ago) vomited blood and had bloody diarreha it was pancreatitis. She was incredibly ill -- did make it and lived many more years, but it was VERY serious.

UPDATE:
After Zero had come home from the vet, we were just suppose to let him rest for awhile and give him his pill at night. He slept for hours, a lot more sleep than he'd been getting. He hasn't thrown up or had any nasty bowel movements since.
I don't know what was wrong, but he's doing great. Playful and excited as aways. Does anyone think giving him adult treats could have done something? We have a bunch of mini bones (some adult and some puppy) I think by mistake we may have given him the adult ones because they are the same size and look alike.
Anyway, he's doing much better.

I'm so glad that he's doing better! It's a possibility that he had a reaction to ingredients in the treats. I've seen an allergic reaction to food that involved both lower (pooping blood) and upper GI (vomiting blood).
Whatever caused it, I hope he is fine now. What a relief that he is back to himself!
