• My dog has stains under his eyes! HELP! Jane Carpenito Posted : 1/11/2007 8:08:03 PM My beautiful puppy, a 10 month old Half Shih tzu, Half Maltese named Newman has some nasty stains under his eyes. We have been told it is due to artificial colorings in his food. We have elminated the colorings in his food AND switched to de-ionized water to remove minerals from his diet and still the stains remain. Does ANYONE know what can be done to fix this? • tzu_mom Posted : 1/11/2007 8:45:40 PM Once the stain is visible, it is set.  You can use a product such as Eye Envy: [linkhttp://www.eyeenvy.com/]http://www.eyeenvy.com/[/link].  It will help to fade the stain.  You can also trim back the stained hair.  Hopefully, you have taken the correct steps to eliminate future staining.  The staining can sometimes be attributed to yeast overgrowth in the gut. I found that eliminating grains and high glycemic carbohydrates from my shih tzu's diet did the trick.  Also adding a good probiotic to the diet will help tremendously. • sallya Posted : 1/11/2007 11:34:15 PM To add with the post above, I would just say to make sure vet says the eyes are fine. I do not know what food you are feeding. You can try to change. Trudy eats no grains, she eats Natural Balance Fish and Potato. Kibble and also canned.
