    remember me? dog is sick

Hi: I use to be on this site all the time but when my husband passed away I couldn't afford the net but now things are a bit better. I read about what the symptems were with the one dog on here and my dog Holli who is an 8 year old german shorthair pointer is having a lot of those symptems as well...she has had 2 sessions this week..one last saturday and now one last night. I just had a vet teck in and she drew blood and will let me know soon just what it up with that if anything. Holli was 10 years old last Nov. and I hate to see her suffering like this..It seems to start at bedtime when she tried to jump up on the bed. She looks like she drops 5 pounds within hours. Her body looks like it caves in behind her ribs but in front of her back legs. Then she lays on the ground and whines and whines and then eventually starts with the moaning and groaning. She shivers but has no temp. She can't get comfortable no matter how she lays..and she can't make the jump up onto the couch so lays on the floor...I thought I try everything I know...pepperment tea for the stomache..cranberry aide tea incase of kidneys..pepto..stomach..baby coated asprin for pain and a 250 mg of amoxicillian in case of infection. But I was up with her all night...and today she is a lot better though not her normal self..not nearly as active..I am wondering now if it could be heart related? I guess I'll have to wait for blood test and the vet is a mobile vet soon to have a per. address and she will stop in tomorrow to check her out. Keep your prayers coming for her..Thanks..

I don't have any ideas, but I hope that Holli is feeling better, soon. That sounds pretty scary!

it might be just a simple thing as a disc problem  but cou.ld also be anything else ...be sure you emphasize to the vet how concerned you are and ask if you can phone her if and when you  really get anxious..if it is a disc problem then steroids should help it but really a d iagnosis has to be made first...just wish you and your pup the best and hope it gets controlled

Welcome back to the forum Gail; I don't have any ideas either but I'll pray for Holli; I hope the vet finds the answer soon and Holly feels better.

Gail how does her gums look?  Nice and pink or pale?

Rather than baby aspirin (which can cause gastric bleeding even in such small doses) try white willow bark, or even chammomile tea (which will both help the stomach and help with pain).

I wouldn't just give antibiotics -- they're too specific.  Antibiotics are not all alike -- some are for aerobic bacteria and some for anaerobic and some for gram negative and some gram positive.  That's why a doctor will give one antibiotic for a flu and another for a sinus infection.  Different bacteria.
