Pimples = allergy?

    Pimples = allergy?

    Maya has some pretty bad pimples (with some weeping and bleeding) under her chin.  I had taken her to the vet and we did an antibiotic for 10 days and daily washing under her chin there was some improvement for a while.  I then got into the habit of washing under her chin every other day.  It seems this all started after she had all her inscisors removed and she's digging around the bowl really shoving her chin in.  She eats out of ceramic bowls.  Could this possibly be a food allergy?  I had switched dog foods about two months before the teeth were removed.  Any ideas besides going back to washing every day?

    I had that problem with my lab when I was using plastic food bowls.  I switched to stainless steel and it helped tremendously.  I'm not sure, but I think even ceramic (some) can be pourous enough to harbor bacteria.  I'm not sure on that, but it might be worth the switch to find out.  In the meantime, I would go back to the daily washes just to keep it from getting worse.  Is it possible to just use a solution you could dab on instead.  Maybe a diluted tea tree oil solution?

    Our Dane Ollie had them,,,and they also would bleed once in a while.  And he always did eat from a stainless steel bowls.    Another person on this board with a dane also had it with one of her dogs, and I think she cleared it up with either Oxy Drops or Nzymes, I can't remember..maybe she will see this before long and answer.    We washed Ollies chin a lot. but honestly he was allergic to things outside and had lots of itchy skin problems. We took him to a skin specialist and he was on allergy shots for about 6 months, (allergic to dust and pollen) and when his itchies cleared up, so did his pimples.

    I've started to give her chin an evening wipe with an astringent that I use myself.  I've seen some improvement in the last couple of days...

    my pug Crash got pimples called teenage acnes when he was pup, my vet just suggested me to keep those pimples clean and then i also put some zinc oitment on those pimples. they were gone very soon. i think it is not about allergy, dont have to worry too much.

    My Blue Dane Saber is the one with the bad acne problem. Most dogs out grow it. The best thing is to keep the face and bowls clean. Wash the dogs face after eating and several times a day. Scrub the bowls after every feeding. Antibiotics will clear it up but as soon as you stop the antibiotics it comes back. Topical acne creams help if it doesn't get licked off. I find using regular human face wipes is the easiest.
    Cats can get it too.

    I just thought I'd let you know that the astringent technique has been working.  I've seen a major improvement.  I'm so glad it wasn't an allergy...
