    diarrhea question....

Okay, Monday during and after a trip to the vet, Misty had watery violent diarrhea. The following day it was mostly just thick but runny.  This morning it was a bit better and this afternoon she had little hard poopies.  I fasted her for 24 hours and then gave her rice, chicken broth and last night some pumpkin.  She also had the same thing this morning, except not the pumpkin.  I stopped by the vet today to get some Panacur to give her (she tested negative for parasites, but I wanted to deworm her anyway) and they insisted I give her this stupid I/D diet in a can.  I only gave her about 1/4 of the can mixed with the rice and chicken broth, and then some pumpkin.  She just went potty and it was watery, mixed with mucous and what looked like pieces of that food...but I cannot imagine it could have moved through her in an hour.  I really don't like what's in that food, so I'm not sure if I should just go back to the rice and chicken broth for the next meal or what.  I haven't started the panacur yet either...I guess I'll give it to her tonight.  Do you think that food could have aggravated the diarrhea?

It can be surprising how quickly the body can respond (or reject) food when there's something going on.  I'm not sure what I'd do if I were you, except I think I'd hold off on the Panacur unless you think it might be the answer to the problem.  If not, then I wouldn't stress the system with anything extra right now.  I know others who have used the I/D formula and had problems.  Is that because it's not that great, or were the problems just too much for even the food to help with, I don't know.  I think you have to go with your gut feeling on this and you'd probably be okay either way (i.e., a home prepared bland diet or the I/D).  Did the vet mention using any Pepto Bismol?  I know others have said they had luck with that when pumpkin was quite enough.  She's such a cutey, I hope she feels better soon.
