Dog sick today

Hi. I have a beagle who is just about 1 year old. He was fine last night and then this morning he wouldn't come inside the house, wouldn't even walk and he was drooling excessively. None of those is normal for him. He walks with his tail down and looks like he feels bad. He stays outside with our other dog (who is not sick). On my way to take him to the vet this morning I pulled a tick off of his head near his ear. 2 ticks fell off...one very small and the other one I didn't see, but it was much bigger. He has a spot on his head that is swollen from where the tick was. The vet took his temperature every hour today and it went from 104 to 102. The vet has Frank on 2 different antibiotics and we will get the blood work back tomorrow.

Any ideas on what this could be?

It seems a wee bit soon for a tick borne disease (google those words and dog and you'll get lots of info). The synptons are pretty typical, though - possibly your dog is now ill from a tick he picked up earlier (the window is from a week to a month from the tick bite).

Your vet should know. If your dog is on doxycycline now, he's getting the correct treatment for TBD and should be fine soon.

Dental pain and problems can also cause drooling, but if your dog is an outdoor dog, or spends a lot of time in the woods, tick borne illness is a possibility.

there are situation where ticks bore into the skin about the spinal cord and cause a temporary pralysis...once the tick is removed the dog recovers...this may be the situation

Is it possible that he got into something outside (anti-freeze, rat bait, lawn chemicals or fertilizers)?
If he is an outdoor dog try to think about what he may have access to. Do you have neighbors nearby that have access to your yard?

I hope that he will be all right.

I'm sorry, I don't have any idea what this could be, but it was great that you took him to the vet. Now that he's under the vet's care, he should be fine.
