    Heart Murmur???

Hi everyone.  I posted a little bit ago (maybe a month?) because Dweezil had gone to the vet for a spider bite and swelling as a result.  The vet (a new vet we had never seen) told us she heard a heart murmur, that hadn't been noticed in Dweezil's visit a couple of months beforehand.  Dweezil is about 14 months now.  The vet suggested we might see a cardiologist, but that it *probably* wasn't urgent.  I decided to wait until her annual checkup in February with her primary veterinarian to make a decision.

Now, Dweezil being my first dog, I'm paranoid.  of course.  I know that puppies do begin to calm down.  Dweezil has been allowed to roam the house freely now for about a month.  She has recently begun to sleep more often.  She does not tire easily or anything, she plays to the death, and loves her walks and doesn't not have trouble finishing them, no excessive panting, etc.  But I have noticed that she is going to lie down and sleep and just laze around more often during the day.  Her bouts of annoying spurts of energy are definitely less than they used to be (but they're still there).  Is this the kind of "tired" people speak of in reference to heart mumurs, or is this a result of a puppy finally calming down because she's not penned up all day?  Is it normal that this happens?

...hm, i'm beginning to think i've posted almost this exact post before!  PARANOID!

It could easily be nothing more than growing up but if you find you are being occupied by this too much, consider taking her to the specialist to put your mind to rest.  However, if the vet said he didn't think this was "urgent", put your mind to rest until the holidays and just watch for the signs you seem to be already aware of.  Take care,

I think I posted our experience with our Anna on your other thread, but I'll say it again, just in case. She had a worsening heart murmur, but she was an older dog, probably around 3 when I got her. The real tell-tale sign for us was the cough, kind of an "ack" that sometimes would bring up spittle. I would go see the cardiologist, because meds may help and you don't want any more damage to be done. BTW, your Dweezil reminds me of our Tookey!
(Sorry! tried to upload a pic of him but it was the wrong one!)
