    Intestinal woes - advice needed

My 9 month old Cavalier had some troubles about 4 days ago, and it still concerns me.  He may have ate some grassy type matting that was on a footstool that I have (or, I should say, had, I removed the grassy mat-like top to it!).  I didn't notice much that came out in his stools tho, and so much matting was strewn about on the floor I really don't think he ate much anyway.  But, that evening, his tummy/intestines made terrible loud noises and rumblings, he did yelp twice, at different times, as if he were in pain, and he was very very quiet, not like himself at all.  I called my vet immediately, and was about to take him in, my vet told me to observe him for a bit (he did seem to get a bit better).  Long story short, my puppy did get better, during the night he made a tiny whimper, and I was about to take him to the vet again, and then he went back to sleep.  The rest of the night he was fine, and in the morning he was back to his old self.  He has been OK ever since.....except tonight now, I have noticed that his tummy/intestines are a bit noisy again, altho he has been acting himself and seemingly is just fine.  But now, because of the loud gut sounds, I am getting worried and scared again.  Anyone ever have anything similar happen?  Thanks!

Gee, I'm sure someone will come along with more advise, but when Ollie, my sons Great Dane used to come over all the time and sleep on our bed, we used to hear his belly making noises a lot.  He IS a guy that tends to have a weaker kind of stomach in that he likes to eat tall grass (which we don't let him) and he throws it up a lot, and when he gets bones or something on the new side he ends up sometimes with the runs or so,,,,but I can say he is really not sick. I always figured the noises were just normal...sometimes digesting or in the case of stomach growling kind of thing.

Thanks Dyan!  He seemed to get better, er, less noisy I mean, as the night went on....but I noticed that he had a funky stool last night with a piece of grassy hay in it.  So far so good this morning, so I am hoping that maybe he just ate some of my rabbit's hay (he tries to steal bits of hay from my rabbit's cage, I have a housebunny), what a stinker!

I just thought of something else, and I am wondering if this may be causing some of the grief.......  Whenever I leave (such as for work, etc.) I put about a spoonful of peanut butter in a couple of Kongs for both of my dogs  (I have 2) to keep them busy for a while.  I did notice that Bentley's stools were sort of the color of peanut butter, anyone out there use peanut butter to stuff inside Kongs or treats?  While I am in the subject, what are some better treats to put inside the Kongs?  I'm thinking of laying off the peanut butter to see if we have any improvement in his stools (altho his stool are quite often "normal" too).

To use Ollie for an example again, every time someone gives him peanut butter, he has diarreah!  I don't use kongs, so I can't help you there. Bubby has one but I only put things in it once or twice,,,because its Dane size, I have trouble finding things to put in big enough to not fall back out.

Thanks!   I definitely will stop using the peanut butter!
