What was wrong with my dog???

Ok around 10pm on a friday night last week my dog throws up, I think no big deal and clean it up.... around mid-nightish she throws up again, again I think no big deal, so we go to sleep and I'm woken up at 6am by her whining, Im thinking she needs to go outside to go potty really bad so I take her out and she goes pee and we come inside and then it starts, she throws up all liquid then goes straight for the water bowl and drinks ALL the water, she lays down and about half an hour later throws up all the water she drank, gets more water, another half hour goes by and she throws up all the water......

that went on for 12 straight hours like clockwork....  throw up, drink alot of water, lay down, 30 minutes later puke it all back up, around 6pm it became every hour instead of every half hour, last time she threw up was around 10pm, it was like a human 24 hour virus I didnt know dogs got viruses and I felt so helpless I couldn't do anything or make her feel better, all I could do was rub her head :(

So was it a doggie virus or what?  Oh yea, I went threw 5 rolls of papertowels cleaning up all her puke that day!!!

Welcome to i-dog sheebsande, I have never heard of a dog getting the flu; I would have been more concerned with accidental poisoning, perhaps something like parvo or a parasitic infection, or an intestinal obstruction. Did she have loose stools lately? Did you take her temperature when she was throwing up? I'm glad she's okay now, but if a dog is vomitting that FREQUENTLY  for that LONG, you should call your vet- they're open Saturday mornings, or get her to an animal emergency clinic.

I would get her to a vet, thats a long time to be throwing up so often.  I was also thinking an obstruction...?  or an inflamed liver, kidney, pancres, etc.  Poisoning.

Did she stop?  If so, did she eat?

Yes I was about to take her to an animal emergency care center then it seemed to ease up, it was really wierd... if it were to happen again I would definately take her to a vet.

Yes she stopped throwing up and when I got a treat in my hand she got all excited lol....

1 thing I forgot and just rememered was the day that it started I had changed her food, after it was over she would just sniff the new food and not eat it so I went to the store and got her what I usually give her and she ate that right up, so I don't know maybe it was the new food?

It sure could be new food.
Biggest thing is this, you said this was last Friday, right?  How was she on Sat. and the rest of the week?  How is she now?

When you gave her the new food did you just go from one to the other all at once or did you slowly mix in the new food more and more at a time?  Some dogs are fine with it, but some dogs stomachs have a really hard time with a new food givin all at once.

Yea I just swithched her food I didn't gradually mix in the new food, as for sheeba she is fine and we're back to playing ball and wrestling :)

I suppose its possible that if you keep using different food, that she will get used to being switched. However, if not, you just need to take a day or two and make a gradual change.  Bubblegum gets 2 1/2 c. kibble per feeding. When I switch her I just switch the 1/2 cup in the morning, by supper I switch 1 cup,  next morning 1 1/2 cups and then by supper a total new if all works well.    Now she changes every other day from one to another and she is doing fine with it.
