Retained puppy teeth

    Retained puppy teeth

I have a 9 month old Cavalier and he was scheduled to have those retained deciduous puppy teeth removed this Friday.  Well, imagine my surprise when I checked his teeth today to find that one had fallen out, and the other one is loose!  I thought that at his age there was no way they'd come out on their own.  The last time I checked those teeth they both seemed to be very securely in place.  Now I am just hoping the other one comes out safely and he doesn't like eat it or something!   Funny that my vet just didn't tell me to wait a while and see if they came out on their own, or, is it unusual for the teeth to fall out at 9 months of age?  I thought that perhaps, by now, it was too late for them to come out on their own.

I'm not a vet, so I'm just gonna speak from personal experience. I was told by my vet that most puppies lose their puppy teeth by about 7 months. If they haven't fallen out naturally by that age, then its time to have them taken out. 9 months seems a bit older than the norm...but then again, there must be some variance with puppies. Maybe you can give your vet a call and voice your concerns...

I was thinking about calling my vet too, just to let him know that both retained teeth did fall out.  Just in case....  altho Bentley is eating OK and his gumline where the teeth were look normal, to me at least.  Thanks!
