    Dogs and air-conditioning

    Hello everybody!
I just wanted to ask if anybody is aware of air-conditioning -related diseases in dogs? I´ve heard of dogs developing pneumonia in air-conditioned cars and dying in a short time after a long trip.
I´ve even heard vets saying air-conditioning is harmful to dogs.
Is that a myth? I´d like to now because my wife is very worried about travelling with our dog. That´s natural, I should say,  since she lost a dog not long ago after a trip. She blames the air-conditioning.

our dogs live in an air conditioned house and when we take them places in warm weather we use the ac. have never had any problems. i can see how it might affect a dog with allergies (make them flare up), but i can't really see how AC could kill a dog?

The effect of air-conditioning in a small volume space like a car might be different. My theory is the dog had pneumonia before, and the trip with AC made it worse. I could be wrong, though.
The dog was 8 years old, fat and had a heart-murmur.

I doubt it was the AC that was the problem.  If the dog was fat and had a heart murmer, that would more likely be the cause.  If the dog was fat, the heart has to work harder.  Since the heart was already not perfect, then that would be hard on it.  I highly doubt the AC caused the death.  That would be like saying that if you take your dog out in the cold, it will get pneumonia or if you keep it in an air conditioned house.

Yes, it´s unlikely the AC in  itself was the cause. So AC is not harmful to dogs even in cars?

We have the AC on almost 12 months a year. I have had pets all my life. There is nothing bad about air conditioning. It feels good.  Cars, homes ac is fine.

Thanks for your replies! So I guess dogs are safe with AC.
