    Histomytosis

My 5 year old sheltie recently had a tumor removed from his mouth along his upper gum line.  The vet said it was something called Histomytosis, which can be cancerous.  Has anyone else heard of this?  And what did you do?

Dogwhisperer, do you mean Histiocytosis?  There are a different types of histiocytic tumors.  Some are benign and others are malignant.  But I think that they are most often benign.  What you will need to do will depend on the results of the biopsy report.  How long did your Vet say it will take to get the biopsy back?

Edited to add:  Welcome to the board, I'm sorry it had to be under these circumstances.  I know that waiting for biopsy results is frustrating and scary.

A year ago my then 10 year old golden had his dental and had tumor removed from his gums, which was benign, and also a small one removed from his lip which was a melanoma..  i can't remember what the vet called the one on his gum, just the melanoma on his lip--which we had pretty much figured before the biopsy report came back.

I wish you luck and that it is just a benign tumor.  And welcome to a world of information from people who have experienced almost anything you can think of.  What one doesn't know a thing about, someone knows a a lot.
