Is inguinal hernia serious?

From what I've read on them, they are fixable, but with surgery. From what I understand (I say this because I may have mis-read or mis-understood) that this hernia allows the organs to slip through this "hole" and if not fixed, could strangle the organs and cause major damage, or even death.  I would suggest to the breeder that they have it fixed before you receive the puppy. From what I understand a good reputable breeder would offer to do this in the first place.  Either that, or they should offer your money back, and you take care of the little one's surgery.  If I were you I'd do some google searches on them, and learn as much as you can, you could also go to your vet and talk with him/her...and then go talk to the breeder.  Most will or should be willing to work with you and do whatever you decide.  Good Luck!!!
 
 

Any hernia that holds intestines could strangulate the intestines causing the bowel to necrose and die and then the dog could get peritonitis and need emergency surgery. I am not a vet (but have been to medical school) but I would definitely get it fixed/ have the breeder pay to fix it. My dog just had a plain old umbilical hernia fixed while she was under anesthesia to be spayed b/c I was worried about that. Good luck!
