    Allergies to Fowl-are eggs ok?

Hello, I just had a quick question.  I am not sure if this is going to sound under educated and stupid but I was wondering if, now that I have determined that my Shih Tzu is allergic to Fowl of any kind (particulary Chicken and Duck) if I should avoid feeding him eggs too.  I don't know if that is very stupid of me to assume that because eggs come from chickens that he may be allergic to them as well.
If yes and I should avoid them, should I just avoid raw eggs or can I feed cooked eggs?

Ashley - I think that's an excellent question.  Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you, but it never even crossed my mind before, so good for you.  I'll be anxious to hear what others have to say.

Can I ask how you determined he's allergic to those proteins?

I don't know if Willow has an actual allergy or is just sensitive to chicken but it's a bad, bad scene when she gets any more than a few bites.  She also has the SAME problem with eggs.

My foster pit had severe allergies to chicken.  He could eat duck, but, could having NOTHING chicken, including eggs.

It took quite a while to determine the allergy actually.  I had put Tucker on Natural Balance Chicken formula not realizing his chronic ear infections (which were constant for 2 years).  I did some research on ear infections and it mentioned allergies.  I switched him to NB Duck and Potato for allergies.  Still, the allergy continued.. ear infection after ear infection.  I took some time and compared ALL the ingredients between the regular chicken formula and the Duck and Potato that I was feeding and realized the common ingredients were Fowl (duck and chicken).  I switched him to the NB Venison and Brown Rice allergy formula, treated his ear infection and he has been ear infection FREE for over a month..Plus, he has bulked up, is WAY more perky and happy and his coat is fantastic.  I never realized he wasn't 100 %(other than the ears) until he has been on this food.  So that is my story of how I determined it was an allergy to fowl.  In all this time, my vet did not mention that his ears could be an allergy, they just prescribed antibiotics month after month.  Not saying the vets are incompetent just that I had to figure it out on my own.

Hi doing an elimination diet with my shih tzu.  I wouldn't try the egg, even though it is a good question.  It is still considered a protein and if your dog is allergic to chicken, or fowl, it is too closely related in my thinking. Good luck on the diet.  I've got the same problems.
