red, slightly swollen eye

    red, slightly swollen eye

A little while ago, I noticed that one of Winnie's eyes seems to be red and a little swollen - the inside corner area.  It also seems to be leaking more fluid than her other eye.

I haven't noticed that she's gotten into anything unusual, and she isn't acting strangely.  She's not rubbing or scratching at her eye, and I've been watching her pretty closely since I first noticed it a while ago.  Any ideas on what it might be?  Could she simply have scratched it on something when she was running around the back yard?  And is this something that warrants a vet visit?  Anything in particular that I should watch for?

It's possible that there's an infection or a foreign body in that eye, and I wouldn't take any chances.  I'd get to the vet as soon as possible.   Problems with the eye aren't something to "wait and watch".  Good luck, I hope it turns out to be nothing serious.

I called both my vets on that advice, and neither can see her before Friday.  Should I be pushing getting her in sooner?

If it's red, swollen and weepy, you might try to get her in for a check at an emergency clinic.  Usually the price is the same as long as it's not after certain hours or on Sundays, but you can call and check.  If it's an infection or a foreign body in the eye, 2 more days might be a long time to wait.  It doesn't take long for an infection in the eye to become a serious problem.

Our new rescuse dog scrateched his cornea in our the yard the day we got him on Sat..  His eye swelled shut.  I got him to vet  the next Monday.  He got these steroid eye drops and cleared him up in about 5 days.
