    my puppy vomited

i have a 7 month old maltese/yorkie. he threw up for the first time yesterday morning, it wasn't much but it was colored yellow and this morning he did the same.

however, just a few minutes ago he threw up his lunch. he eats the "cesar" brand for small dogs, i don't know if that makes any significance. he hasn't eating anything else but that and a few bites of nutro.

i should also note that nutro was his original food until i decided to purchase "cesar" and pedigree when i noticed he seemd to have stopped liking nutro and he has since preferred cesar. the first few days of eating his new food has been alright.

other than throwing up, he seems fine. i'm monitoring him now and he's running around like a healthy puppy chasing his ball.

i've had him for two weeks now and i'm a first time dog owner so any would be of great help. should i be worried and call the vet? thank you in advance!

JJ just vomited as well and it was a little lighter then yellow but last time it was yellow color.  I'm thinking it may be poor diet for my pup, she haven't really been eating NB much, thinking of switching to another dog food - allergy type.  Does the vomit look like the picture?  I think if this continue, it's time for a vet visit.

Dogs throw up.  Some more than others.  Unless it continues for an extended period, it's probably okay. [:)]

According to Dogs In Canada, sometimes gas in the stomach can cause vomiting.  So don't get too worried.

My vet's general rule is that if they're vomiting repeatedly, then it's a problem.  Normally my lab will throw up about 1-3x a month.  Pumpkin or rice will help with an upset stomach.  My vet also likes Pepto, but I find that the rice usually does the trick.  Some people also withold food until the stomach settles down.

The yellow stuff your pup vomited was bile. Sometimes, if they have an empty stomach, they'll puke up some lovely bile for you. Yum, huh? lol

    Re: vomiting food
Is it possible that he over-ate or ate too quicky?

Three brands of food in two weeks may be too much change at once. Some dogs take a while to adjust. He'll probably also benefit from a better quality brand of food, since brands like Pedigree aren't especially nutritious. If you check out the nutrition section on the board, you can find a lot of useful information. If you want a quick reference, this site has a list of brands and where to find them. Good luck. Hope your pup's tummy feels better.
