I can't wait to see pictures as she grows her coat in, I really would like a Collie myself.

I use a fatty acid supplement, but I've used fish oil in the past also.  I recently started grooming with a slicker brush which makes the coat very nice, just get one that states "gentle" on the package so you don't have breakage.

I've loved the Nova Pearls spritz that was recommended to me by someone here, you can get that at any of the big stores, Petco, Petsmart.  They sell lots of things to make the coat shine, etc. but most of them weight the coat down and build up, this brand doesn't.

Willow couldn't continue on it but her coat looked fantastic on Wellness Fish and Sweet Potato, it is made for skin and coat.  Also, I've seen lots dogs on Eagle Pack just gleaming.

Diet is the most important factor, like the others have said.  Raw is best, but great kibble will do the job. Canidae and Timberwolf Organics elk or bison formulas are my favorites.

Another important thing to consider: Make sure that the grooming products you use do not contaion silicone, lanolin (aka 'wool wax'), oil or wax that can clog hair follicles.
Any ingredient ending in "cone" like dimethicone, etc should be avoided...
(I would use Coat Handler or Eqyss)

I feed my Belgian a raw diet, and supplement it with fish and seal oilsand BioVet Skin&Coat (which is great at making the fur thicker). I also bathe her every couple of weeks and show-dry her to make her hair look fuller.

i'd like to second the feeding of Wellness fish and sweet potato. whenever i'm feeding my dog that her coat just gleams. but pretty much what everyone else has said - good diet is the main factor, and of course, upkeep.

I work more on keeping coat on Emma than growing a nice, long coat, but... it's the same concept.

I second the best food you can get, regular brushing, fish oil, and I'd like to add that vitamins e and a are quite helpful. MSM is good for human hair and nails, as well as biotin, a b vitamin. My dogs get MSM for their joints, and plenty of b vitamins from their diet. I do think the MSM makes a difference. I see a difference in my own hair, skin, and nails (joints, first, since that's why I take it) when I'm taking it.

Hi, Regular brushing will help alot it helps to remove dirt from the coat and move the body oils through the hair shaft. Do not overbathe no more than every 4 weeks when you brush your dog use a light conditioner mixed with water in a misting bottle. Mist her down a little before you brush not so shes wet just a light mist this will help to alleviate coat breakage. Fish oil suppliment and a good diet are all you need. Good Luck a full coated collie is a beautiful thing !

Salmon oil and regular brushing does wonders. Make sure you have the proper kind of brush for her coat. Can't wait to see her all shiny :)[:)]

[align=left][blockquote]This is very interesting...all of you advising giving the dog fish oil, that is.  I have a Cocker Spaniel who always begs at the table unless I am serving fish, clam chowder, etc.  Then he decides that he wants a nap in another room!  For his skin and coat he gets a teaspoon of Dr. Maggie's oil (roast chicken flavour) which he just loves and which is doing a good job.  His coat is looking much better after just a few days.  He licks it off the spoon, although you can mix it with his food too, but he is sometimes a picky eater and this way he is sure to get all the benefit from it.  Anyone ever try this?
