Tzu grooming

    Tzu grooming

I am not an expert by any means but I have learned so much about grooming my Tzus over the past years. I tried a lot of products and different combs, brushes, rakes, etc. Of course all dogs are different and will require different products. But I wanted to relay some of the things I think make it so much easier for folks with long haired double coated breeds.
I brush my dogs every other day now or every few days, now that they are older. I just started this around six months ago. Until then, I brushed them every single night for about one hour! But since they have gotten older, their hair rarely mat.
I swear by Christ Christensen brushes and combs. They are pricey but so very worth it. I have two brushes, one for when they have longer hair and one for shorter hair, pin brushes. And I use a butter comb too. I brush first then comb through. I always use grooming spray. I like The Stuff and an aromatherapy product from Bark n Bath website. I brush their teeth every few days and use an oral rinse every two days and Oravet once a week. They get their ears cleaned with a rinse every few days as well.
I really wanted to share this because I hear of a lot of itchy dogs, and I will stand firm that frequent brushing helps prevent the itchies. I notice when I have been lax in doing it, their itching starts back.
Hope you all dont mind this long post. [:)]

Good info!  I love the Chris C Buttercombs, too.  It's hard to shell out $25 for a little metal comb, but it truly is worth it.  They really are "like butter"[;)]

Thanks for the great recommendations!~ I checked out their website but am a bit unsure as to which brushes/combs to purchase for Toby. He's a Maltese (single coat). Could you give me some advice? I want to purchase everything at one time (to save on shipping). Thanks in advance!!!

I would recommend the Buttercomb #000 and the gold series pin brush 20 mm. If you are interested in a good shampoo from that site, the Clean Start is good. But since you have a Maltese the White on White might be good too! You will love those brushes and combs!!

And by the way, I absolutely LOVE your blog! I read through it all, and enjoyed seeing all Toby's toys, treats and pictures. Couldnt believe someone emailed you that they didnt like it! They didnt know how to X out if they were "offended"? Woo some people. LOL
