@KatieStorey
My 7 year old Jack Russell, Harley, was diagnosed with IMHA about 2 weeks ago. He had a blood transfusion and was put on prednisone and cyclosporine twice daily. The cyclosporine made him very sick, so they switched him to azathioprine and upped his prednisone. He is up from an 11 pcv to 22. Now though, he is limping and almost walking sideways sometimes. Is this caused by his meds?
Katie ... usually I respond. There is a huge thread on here " AIHA or IMHA" that will help you a lot.. Before I answer your question I need to know more.. It is not unusual foe Cyclo to be hard on the stomach.
Pred creates a ton of side effects like hind end weakness and general muscle-can't-talk-to-the-brain troubles. ( like how thr pred makes them drink the house down but then the bladder can't hold the urine and they will have accidents ... or simply the fact that
The muscle s in the legs won't work right) . BUT BUT BUT I would also want to know what sort of stomach protectant the dog is on and how often your vet treats IMHA.
Most regular vets nust can't treat IMHA. It is too complex. Even researchers who doo nothing but study this disease are often stumped. And they may miss things. Big BUT again ... I would not send you to a specialist. Often going to a vet school is " "the" best thing to do. Far more cost-effective and most of the time absolutely the best thing you can do.
I am going to ''friend'' you so I can email you my number. It would be easiest if we can talk. I have a sucky connection (last nite i couldn't log in to nswer you.) I'm not a vet ... just a lady who had an IMHA dog so .I have a ton of experience.
