8 Week old Pit/Lab mix pup

I just on Wednesday got an 8 week old Pit/Lab mix puppy. My son & I have named him Shadow. The only problem we are having with him is he don't like to be alone. He want's us around all the time. Mind you I work sometimes 10 hours a day. My son's father goes over to let him out when I'm at work. But he get's really upset if we aren't always in the same room with him. and he barks at us until one of us comes into the room he is in. How do you break them of this habit?

Hi, I know its not easy but it's a tough love sort of thing. He will eventually figure it all out, remember he is just a puppy and his whole world is all new, it will take time I promise he will settle in. Try to take him for a nice walk before you go to work, at least a 30 min walk and some vigorous play is good. It will help tire him out and be more likely to sleep. Just like a baby they will cry but will stop. He just needs to learn the new routine. Trust I have been through this many times, I have raised 2 wonderful pups and have fostered many dogs the last 15 years. Just be patient and things will improve. Another tip, don't make a big fuss when you go, keep it calm, keep it simple. Please keep me updated and post some pics of the little guy too.

Some other fun things to keep him busy: Kongs are wonderful, fill them with crushed kibble and peanut butter then freeze it (as long as your pup isn't allergic to that) not a lot of peanut butter just enough to hold the kibble together. Nylabones are great too. Plenty of toys will help keep him busy.
