Interview with Tripp Manheimer , Miracle Corp., Inventor of the QuickFinder™

    1. How did you come up with the idea?

I was developing a light source for retinal surgery about 10 years ago. It struck me that the high-intensity fiber optic light used in that product might illuminate my dog's black nails. It worked, but that technology was too expensive and cumbersome to fit on a standard clipper handle. So, as I waited for the availability of brighter, battery-powered lights, I started to explore other options with a few very clever engineers. We eventually arrived at the technology that's in the QuickFinder. It took some time, but I think it was well worth the wait.

    2. What makes your product unique?

The QuickFinder is the only product available that will identify the location of the quick even on black nails.

    3. Are you planning any enhancements/improvements to the product?

We are working on adapting the technology to a deluxe style clipper and a nail grinder.

    4. What is your professional background? Did that line of work or education help you in developing this product?

I worked in medical product development for more than 15 years, which gave me experience in developing products from concept to market. I knew enough to partner with engineers who had years of experience developing innovative, high-quality products.

    5. Throughout the entire inventive/manufacturing process what was the hardest obstacle you faced?

The hardest obstacle is always finding someone in the marketplace who believes in you and your product. I was fortunate to find Miracle Corp., a company that doesn't have a not-invented-here syndrome and is in a high growth mode, which is ideal for new products.

    6. What type of pets do you own?

I have two cats, Jade and Chyna, and a new puppy Murfy. The dog that inspired the product, Pei Pei (a shar pei), died last October. I owe him a lot of credit for sitting patiently through the product testing sessions.

    7. Is there anything else you'd like readers to know about you or your product?

Keep an eye on Miracle Corp. because we are working on some truly innovative, cutting-edge products.

Kozmo Note: PetGadgets has selected this product as one of the top 5 new products for 2006.

I was reading about this new nail clipper in the whole dog journal...it sounds fantastic[:D]

Wow, what a great idea, I've posted before I'm chicken and just take Otto to get it done, but maybe I should try this?  It looks pretty cool.
    • Gold Top Dog
It looks like a great product for dogs with black nails.  My dog was blessed with only 2 black nails (and one of them is only half black), so I probably wouldn't need something like this.  Though if I had a dog in the future with black nails, I would seriously consider it.

ETA: Yes Cally I first saw this in the WDJ too. [:D]

It's a good idea, but if I bought it I would wait until they made new de huge-idied models. I really don't want to be wrestling with this AND a squirmy dog.
    • Gold Top Dog
Lucky me - my squirmy dogs have white nails, and my quiet dogs have black nails.  There is a god.  But, nice gadget nevertheless, and I would probably get one for the other dogs I do.

I was thinking they would be great to use at the grooming facility or at the kennel when I have to clip nails.  My Sister has many customers stop in for a quick nail trim at her grooming shop...it only takes a couple of seconds, it's quick easy money...it would be great to have one of these as it would be so much quicker.  I also have people pop in for nail trims, you can get up to 10 or more drop in's a  day plus the 10 or more dogs your grooming...that would make it soooo much more efficient.

OOOOOOH that's great!  Looks a bit clunky though.  I have small hands, and I cannot really judge from the size of the picture how big it is.
    • Gold Top Dog
    I want some of these.
When are they supposed to start selling them?

The initial shipments of MIRACLECORP'S QuickFinder Nail and Claw Trimmer are going out to stores this week.  You can buy them now on Ebay in the ALW PetStuff Ebay Store ([linkhttp://stores.ebay.com/ALW-PetStuff]http://stores.ebay.com/ALW-PetStuff[/link]).

They look rather bulky, but I would like to give them a try!

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but has anyone tried [linkrodID=30]this>http://www.kimlaubecoshop.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&;ProdID=30]this nail grinder[/link] from Laube?  I liked the fact that it collects the dust particles.  The RPM are not too high, and it's cordless.  It looks pretty bulky as well, at 10" long, and almost 1 lb. in weight.

I am so excited! the girls in my salon and I will definitely be very interested in this!
    • Gold Top Dog
What a great idea!  As the owner of a squirmy dog with black nails, I will definitely be buying one of these.  My DH loves techy stuff like this and he does the nail clipping, so maybe I can make it a birthday gift to him [:D]
    • Gold Top Dog
That will come in handy, and it isn't too pricey either! I suspect that the price will drop even further if we give it some time.
    • Gold Top Dog
Well I did it. I bought one. Sure hope it works when I get it. I can sent it back within 7 days which is good. We will see.
