    Pregnant Dane???! Or False Pregnancy?

    image.jpg

    Hello,

I have a two year old Great Dane, she was bred 42 days ago...

Two weeks after being bred she ended up getting a vaginal infection and was put on antibiotics for two weeks. While we were at the vet they did an US and the Vet claimed she saw 2-6 pups. That was at day 23. We took her back for a recheck at day 30 and her infection was on the mend and they did another US.. However this different Vet claimed she didn't really see anything.

So thinking that she prob lost the pups or is having a false pregnancy we didn't feed anymore than usual or completely switch her to puppy food. We'll not long after that apt Raven then started to balloon over night. I stated adding puppy food again and have been watching her closely (isn't hard because she's always with me cuddling) I took her back to the Vets office just to get a weight on her because she is getting HUGE!! She has gained 7.2 lbs in just two and a half weeks!!!

Has anyone else had puppies "hide" in an US at day 30? Or maybe can give me some advice? The breeder that owns the male is just as confused as I am. (She is actually the breeder we bought our Dane from. She contacted us when she purchased her new male to see if we would breed our female since she was the best out of her litter)

thank you in advance for your input and advice.

I've never bred a dog so I don't have any advice for you.  What does the Vet say?

I hope, if she's pregnant and I'm making a wild guess that she is pregnant, she has a safe delivery and healthy pups.  Good luck.

The Vet said that it's up in the air right now.. They couldn't palpate her because she flexed her tummy too tight. She offered for us to bring her back in 45-50 days for an X-ray to see if we can see anything that way. I am not a Vet by any means, however my mother in law has bred Maltese for 23 years and I have volunteered at our local Humane Society for the last 5 years, when I feel her belly I can feel different little bumps but I'm not sure if that's puppies at this stage or her organs. She seems pregnant by all the symptoms and the serious weight gain but I was told that rarely false pregnancies can present in the same manner. I was just posting on here hoping someone would have some extra thoughts or that maybe someone had been through the same thing.

I hope someone who has some experience has some insight for you.  I'm sure it's frustrating not to know for sure.  If that's her in your avatar, she's a lovely dog.

Yes that was her at 14 months.. She loves my kids very much and doesn't like it when they leave her sight. She was watching the corner of the house for my kids to pop out. Lol

I sure hope someone can help me out as the Vet clinic isn't being helpful until X-rays can be done and the lady that we bred with is extremely busy at this time with a  Great Dane litter that's ready for new homes and a brand new Staffie litter just born a few days ago.

We are so lost and wouldn't have even done this is we were completely filled in. Everyone that knows us told us we would do awesome and not to worry .. Blah blah blah, my mother in law said that with the experience I have I'll do fine. However (not saying I don't love all the pets at the shelter) it's different when it's YOUR baby.. Plus I'm usually only there when all the cats start popping out babies. The dogs are sneaky and do all the fun stuff at night when no one is standing there feeding them treats.
