    Help making nice bows

I need some help/advice on making nice bows. I have tried searching the net, but mostly what I find is bows to purchase. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Do you need help with Topknot/ear bows, or the collar (frilly, large, looks like one of those things for homecomming) ones? I am an expert bow maker with the topknot ear-bows, but I can't do the big ones. (they look too squished to me).
Here's my "recipe" to make ear-bows.

-Take a piece of ribbon,(i'd say no more than 6 inches). Decide how long you want it.

-curve it around like a breast cancer ribbon and pinch it where the ends meet. Pinch the top of the "awareness ribbon" and where the ends meet (the X)

There are different meathods with tying them:

-put the rubber band between where the two ends meet and twist 2-3 times. (this won't give you a separate "hair tie" end, you'll just have to find it within the rubber band)
OR: (this is going to be really hard to explain)
Put the rubber band on a closed hemostat (or scissors- just make sure they aren't sharp). Then put the bow above where the rubber band is.
    This next part is tricky.
Pull the rubber band up and over the top of the hemostats. (you will have one end of the rubber band on the bottom, below the bow, and one over the top above the bow.
flip the hemostats over, and take the bottom of the rubber band (on the other side) and take it up and over to the other side (the side with the ribbon.)

I personally like the first way, just because it's easier.

I have no life, and I had a lot of caffine tonight, so I am going to illustrate with some nice pictures!!

    Thanks! The illustrations helped.

I can make big bows (like for gift wrapping and such), but the small fancy bows with double loops and embellishments are what I am reffering to. I work in a grooming shop and want to make some special bows.
One of the main things is how are they held together. Would you use larger rubberbands or sew them.

Go to [linkhttp://www.whitedogenterprises.com]www.whitedogenterprises.com[/link].  There is a magazine called whiskers that is totally devoted to making all kinds of ribbons.  It gives great instructions and ideas.

Bows like the one in my avatar?  I suggest contacting Lynne, she makes bows and occasionally sells her "recipe" for making show-type bows.  If you asked, she'd probably list it for you.

    Thanks Fancy!!!

    Alicia,
Those are what I am talking about and more. I have seen some really pretty bows available online, but I want to make some myself. Thanks for the info! I'll contact Lynne, maybe she'll have mercy on this poor unguided soul, lol. I don't plan on making any for shows, just special little pooches that come into our grooming salon that need some pampering.
