Bought myself a Dremel!

    Bought myself a Dremel!

Well I finally broke down and got a dremel to do Zoe's nails.  I look and compared prices at alot of different stores.  They are not cheap!  But, when you think of how long it will last, it will pay for itself soon.

I tried it out on Zoe right away, and she had no problems with it.  She acted in the same way as if I would be clipping them.  It will take a bit of getting used too, but it is sure nice to have smooth nails instead of rough sharp nails!

I just held it up to her and let her smell it and she wasn't scared at all.  But she is used to me grooming her as well, so that is probably why is was afraid of it.

Last one I bought was $17.95 at Wal-Mart -- and given that the nail grinders they use at nail botiques are between $50 and $150 I again think I'm getting a deal (like when you compare the cost of a dog spay to the cost of a human hysterectomy).  And it's one of those things that's gotten cheaper in the last 10 years rather than more expensive.

Look at it this way -- your patients and her piggies are WORTH it!!

I was washing my own hair at the tub tonight rather than a full shower and was leaning over squeezing water out of my hair when Billy came in from outside.

He came ZOOMING in to the bathroom careening around the corner like a mad dog and came up and sniffed ALL OVER me.

I said "Billy, as tough as it may be for you to believe, Mom does this to herself without any treats at all!!!  And you get a treat just for jumping in the tub!!!  Imagine that -- I do it to myself and don't even get a treat!!"

he just looked at me like "you poor fool, Mom! WHY??"

I love my dremmel too.  Just one word of caution.  I have tzus also, and i have to be soooo carful that their foot hair dosnt get caught in the spinning while dremmeling..  I've done it twice on the same dog..dang it!  It really didnt hurt her, it stopped right away, but scarred us both, and put a bit of a damper on it but just for the finish of that time.  Was fine when starting the next time.   And remember not to hold it on one nail for more than a few seconds at a time.  It will get hot.  Sure is nice though huh... glad she dosnt mind!

I trimmed the fur on her feet first to make sure that didn't happen.  I had been for warned about that!  I am very careful not to hold it on the nail for more than a couple of seconds.

The dremel cost me $50 Canadian!  That was the cheapest I could find locally.  The walmart in our town was $15 MORE than the walmart in the city!  [&:]  Go figure!

I am loving the smooth nails!

    Jk2,
for us Canadians, ordering online from the US isn't always the best.  We have to add the exchange rate , duty for crossing the border, and then the Candian taxes, plus the shipping and handling.

Often you are better off just buying locally if you can, unless you can order from a Canadian website and the product is shipped within Canada.

You really have to know your prices!  Other wise I'd love to order it from Dog.com!

Amazing sweetbon,,, i guess it has nothing with 'distance', just  the "duty" and tax stuff.  Well, it's a good deal then ya got[;)]..  I actually figured they'ed be the 50 when i went in, so i guess i was willing to pay that anyway.  Happy dremmeling[:D]  jk2

Almost be worth it to buddy up with someone here in the US to do an order from dog.com and then just ship it to you/bring across the border.

Where in canada are you?  I order fairly often from dog.com, when I have enough stuff to get free shipping, and I have family in buffalo ny so its close to family and canada when I visit.

Though - they require a passport to get across the border now from what I understand (or at least make it much more difficult without one) so that muddies it up a bit.

Food for thought anyway, for stocking up :)

Also remember that they get hot very quickly so don't leave it on one nail too long just keep moving from nail to nail. I got Brando, now the dremel is done for him.

No passport needed yet to go across the border for us , yet.    You just need your drivers license or some photo id or birth certificate.  It is getting harder to go across.  We live really close to the border, in Manitoba.

Oh, maybe I'm just thinking that they WILL be requiring passports or something, I know I've heard my parents talking about it.  Or maybe it's just harder near them to get across.  You live north of Minnesota/North Dakota, right?  Its like 2300 km/1400 miles from where my family is, so I guess buddying up on dog.com isn't going to work.  [&:]

To avoid catching hair in the dremel you can take a pair of nylon stockings, slide it over the pay and poke the nail through the nylon. Helps alot.
